HDMI output working only with DVI plugged in.

Over the past few days i have been trying to figure out why i was getting no picture when connected my HP Pavillion media PC to my Samsung 6 series LED TV.

Yesterday, i decided to connect a monitor via DVI to the computer at the same time as having the HDMI plugged into the TV. When i did so, the TV suddenly showed the picture, but when i unplug the DVI from the monitor the TV stops showing the picture as well.

Any ideas why this is happening, ideally i wanted to just have the TV work from the HDMI connectoin.

System Specs: Windows 7 home premium, ATI Radeon 5450 HD card, 6gb ram, AMD CPU.

Most likely what is happening is that windows is defaulting on the DVI and not outputting an image on the HDMI, you want to plug the HDMI and DVI in at the same time and make the HDMI output the primary monitor and see if it works.

It seems that I have a similar problem. Currently I'm using a DVI output from my Radeon 6570 card on my PC to my ASUS VS228-H-P monitor. My HDMI cable is a Rosewill model # RC-6-HDM-MM-BK-3.

I tried to connect my HP M6-1035dx laptop via HDMI to this same monitor. The monitors control display only finds the screen of the laptop not the HDMI connected screen. Are those Windows defaults needing to be changed beforehand or should I connect the DVI cable to the ASUS monitor at the same as the HDMI cable? The problem is that the DVI cable is only connected to the card on my PC and there is no DVI connector on the laptop. I looked up the versions of HDMI for both the laptop and the monitor. The laptop uses version 1.4 and the monitor uses version 1.3. I've read that that 1.4 is backwards compatible with 1.3 but yet I get no display connection between the monitor and laptop anyway. What should I do?

you need to change the input on the monitor manually on the monitor itself when using the laptop on the monitor and use the windows key + P to enable the hdmi output on the laptop.
