So, I have a newer laptop with a USB-C port that I have an adapter for HDMI and USB ports. This adapter works on TVs and other monitors, but not this older one.

The monitor doesn’t work when I have the HDMI to VGA adapter plugged into the USB-C to HDMI adapter (says “Input not Supported”). The laptop does detect the monitor, but nothing displays with the USB-C adapter. However, when I plug the HDMI to VGA adapter into the laptop directly, it functions normally.

I have a newer monitor, but I just wanted to use this one instead temporarily.

With laptop HDMI port:

Monitor: Asus X203H
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 7386 2-in-1
Adapter: Hieracool Model #UCN3286

Any ideas on how to get the USB-C adapter working with the HDMI to VGA adapter?

I am guessing, but I bet that the USB-C adapter doesn't provide the power required for the VGA adapter.

So, the adapter has a USB-C power input too. I just plugged a cable into that and it has the same issue.

Edit: I read about it having to be a thunderbolt adapter here. Also, this answer says that USB is digital while VGA is analog. I'm guessing that it won't be compatible. I looked up manufacturer drivers, but none are available (it's plug and play).

Ahah! This is genius: Betreff: Laptop cant connect to external monitor via USB-C hub - Dell Community

Problem solved! Just change settings in the Intel Graphics Command Center (like resolution, scale, and refresh rate).
