I use the HDMI to VGA adapter to connect one of the old monitor as second monitor on my system. It works great.
But, twice now, the adapter seemed to stop working after I unplugged the monitor from the adapter when it was still hot.
Does it make sense that the adapter would burn out when it is hot?

Solution
Got it, and no, unplugging an HDMI cable while it's in use should simply stop the display, it shouldn't cause damage to the cable or display. Is the issue occurring consistently? If so, you may just need to unplug/replug from your computer whenever you want to disconnect it. In most use cases, you don't have to reconnect a video cable often, if ever.
