The cable on my headphones gets hot on a specific part near the volume knob and i start to hear static crackling when the cable is moved, except, this only happens if i plug them into a motherboard usb port in the back of my PC. I plugged them into the front and both issues instantly stopped. I also tried re-installing audio drivers which did not change anything.

I plug them into the back and i can actually feel the heat gradually build up in that spot which gets pretty hot. Is this an issue with the ports drawing too much power? What's going on?

The headphone model is "Etekcity H7PX+ " and the motherboard is "Z97 PC Mate"

Solution
check to see on the back port if there a bent pin on the usb slot. if not sounds like there a dead short break in the headphone wire. when you use it in the back your streaching it to where it shorting out. if the headset under warranty i would do an rma.
