Headphones have no output

Hi,
When I plug my headphones into the front audio jack (and the USB, as they are Turtle Beach X12's that I had laying around), there is no output to the headphones. The sound continues to come out of my speakers, and the Headphones are listed as the default communications device; I am unable to change the headphones to default device. This never used to happen so am not sure how to fix it.

Not sure if I am posting this in the correct thread, so apologies if I haven't put it in the right one
Last week I updated my computer drivers including my audio drivers (IDT High Def Audio CODEC) to newer versions, and ever since, when I plug my headphones into the headphone jack on the front of the case, sound continues to stream through my speakers rather than my headphones. Before I updated the drivers, they worked perfectly and when I plugged them in they were listed under speakers/headphones.
After installing the new drivers, it now no longer works - they are listed as "Communication Headphones" and they are set as the Default Communications device - when I have tried to set them as a default device, nothing happens.
I have since rolled back the IDT drivers, but that hasn't helped. My headphones I have been using are some Turtlebeach X12's that I have laying around and occasionally use, and with the capability for use of a microphone I can understand why they would be interpreted as Communications Device but it does not make sense how it worked perfectly one week and then suddenly they are no longer working.
Anyone know a fix? (Preferably one that does not involve system restore or factory reset) - having said that, I do have a restore point available for before the drivers were updated.
