[SOLVED] Headphones not working. Motherboard audio broken?

Hi, apologies if this isn't the correct forum.
As of recently my headset stopped working with my PC, the only sound it plays being a high pitched ring and crackling. Same problem occurs with other headphones, in both the front and back jacks. The HDMI audio works fine. Disabling, enabling and reinstalling drivers did not solve anything.
This started happening after I had to remove a faulty GPU, so could it be that I accidentally damaged something doing so?
Is there anything else I can try right now? Or do I need a new sound card?

Yes it's possible something got damaged on the motherboard. Try booting off a Linux Live disk and see if audio still does not work in that OS.
