headphones showing up in dell audio but not playback

I just bought a new laptop yesterday. It's a inspiron 15. I just bought a new pair of headphones as well, but whenever i open playback options it doesn't show up. However when I open dell audio up it says it is connected and I test it, and it works so i'm not sure what to do.

You mean playback devices when you click on the volume meter? The headphones or speakers don't appear there, what shows up there is the audio controller. If you have HDMI output that would also show up as a device. The laptop should automatically switch to the headphones when plugged in and use the speakers if not.

As long as you're getting sound don't worry about it
