Alright so I built my computer about 5 years ago and have never experienced this problem before. Randomly the mic on my headset just wouldn't pick up any sound. I plugged my turtlebeach headset in (which is PC compatible) and same thing happened. I could hear out of the headphones but nothing was being picked up by my mic. I've always plugged it into the onboard audio on the back of the computer and never had a problem with it. I figured it may have been the jack that was messed up so I borrowed my friends Razor Kraken 7.1 USB headset and tried that....once again I could hear perfectly through the headphones but the mic was unable to detect any noise. The gray bars next to recording devices just doesn't move at all even when i yell into it no green bars pop up. I've tried everything I can think of to fix this issue....all my drivers are up to date and I've tried reformatting even and updating everything again and still the same problem persist.

My mobo is an ASUS m4a89gtd pro ... and yes i've doubled checked every mute option i can think of.

3 headsets ...2 normal mic jacks 1 USB ...all have sound through headphones but computer won't pick up ANY sound through mic...I'm lost please help!

It would be worth checking if it is enabled or not. Go to control panel, sound, then recording. Write click on the white and select "show disabled devices". Then, I do believe you should right click on microphone and click enable. If that doesn't work, disable that one, and go through all of the different microphone options (if there are more) and enable each one at a time to find the right one. If this doesn't work, then I do not know. From what you have mentioned, you may have already done this, but if you haven't, definitely try it.
