Headset Mic not picking up but there is audio

I built a PC a few days ago which succeeded but when i use my headset my mic on it wont pick up anything but its being recognised by the pc cause it is set as default but i dont know what the problem is.

is it a USB device? Check sound devices - right click on the little speaker icon in the bottom right on the windows taskbar, click recording devices - see if your device is listed there and selected as the default device.

Also check if your headset has a removable mic and it's slotted in there correctly.

It would help if you tell us your OS and Headset model.
