Hi!

I just recently built my first PC and I've been keeping track of my temps, and had a question about my CPU temperatures.

At the moment, my idle (well, with a media player, Chrome, Skype, and some other basic "always-on," programs running) temperature from CoreTemp measurements is usually at 20 C. HWMonitor also reports a temperature of 20 C, with a max of 27 C.

When my CPU is under some sort of load (games), I max out at temperatures of around 51 C (I get to this temperature specifically when playing games like FarCry 3 at high settings or Bioshock 2 at max).

My CPU is not overclocked and is using the stock cooler with the pre-applied paste. My room temperature is 30 C, and where I am, we are in the heart of summer.

I was wondering if these temps are okay or if I should look into buying an aftermarket CPU cooler? I did some research myself beforehand and found that the max temperature for my CPU is around 71 C, and that would mean I am comfortably resting 20 C below that, but I'm not sure if I'm comfortably away from max recommended temperature or the CPU's absolute limit, since the two can have two consequences.

Thanks.

Solution
AMD socket temperatures on many motherboards are fairly often mildly inaccurate at idle. (Not sure of the cause of it, but this has been reported semi-frequently here) At load however, they are typically accurate and indicate that you are good.

Max Socket Temp for AMD is 62C. HWMonitor will give you as close to accurate readings as can be expected, though your idle temps are likely a bit off (My guess would be about 5-6C).

I have a good water cooler, and i'm getting 10 - 20 min 45 max temps....? So yeah, that ought to be possible with a half way descent stock cooler

I thought i reply to this but no...i had an old thermaltake from my older phenom x4 cpu that wasnt PWN and now i bought a zalman 5x air cooler...but im not sure if my temps are correct...my msi control panel shows 45-65C idle/usage but any other app shows way less HWinfo show the same temp in MB auxilary which i dont know what it is and even if its the correct temp

Im stuck at 65-67C while playing AC:Blag Flag...im not sure if im able to go above that without o/c

Guys there are 2 TEMP that any TEMP SOFT shows.
If you are using the motherboard asus monitor utility it will show overall temp.
SPEEDFAN shows 2 temps of cpu. STOCK COOLER.
A. Core temp [idle 20~30c]
B.Overall CPU TEMP [TEMP 1] on M5a97 r2.0 [Idle around 35c~45c]

So while gaming it will go up 15~20c more
Overclock should add more 5~6c
if you are getting any higher please upgrade the cooler or reapply thermal paste.

you may be looking at thermal margin rather than actual temp. the lower the thermal margin the hotter the cpu. when you are using your rig to its maximum its okay to hit a 0 on thermal margin but i would allow a minimum of 20c for 24/7 mine fluctuates between 35 and 45 for day to day and it goes down to around 4 when im gaming

Update
I just upgraded my heat sink to a cooler master hyper 212 evo and added a case fan. i tested my idle thermal margin and got it up to 65.2c when i cooled the room down but during normal uses its at 50 now and goes down to 25 or so under heavy load.

I have my 6300 clocked at 4.1gz all the time no turbo core. Locked Multiplier. 28 degress at semi idle, 58 under full load. No problems here. 60+ is a problem though so aftermarket after that point or if you plan on overclocking past the 4.1ghz

Dude this is absolutely normal. I ran mine overclocked for almost 2 years 24/7 idling at 50c and topping out at 85c gaming. Never had issues. Chip is still running at stock speeds today in my brothers pc.

In order to find the accurate cpu temps you have to use AMD overdrive to check the thermal margin of the CPU. That tells you how far you have until it reaches it's peak temperature limit. It is the only way to know for sure.

i have an issue on my amd fx 6300(no over clock) on gigabyte ga78lmt s2 motherboard
I usedAIDA64 Extreme
after which i found
motherboard - 62C
CPU - 75C
CPU Diode - 60C
GPU Diode - 56C while gaming
Can anyone help me what is cpu Temperature and cpu diode temperature?
What is the issue exactly
