how do i connect the thermal sensor[from a display that goes on the front of the case] to the cpu. i have an amd x2 3800+. do i place the sensor between the radiator of the cooler and the cpu?

You don't want to put anything between your CPU and heat sink. I usually just try and get the temp sensor down low in the fins of the heat sink, preferrably contacting the base if possible to get the best temp sensing. It's always going to read lower up there.
