hi all

i have a big asus gtx 770 gpu and its so heavy i need to support it in the case, could i do this with some 'lego/duplo' blocks? or is this not good for the card? static electicity etc ;D i know its a funny way to support it but i dont want to damage my gpu/mobo

Thanks

Solution
It's not for static safety but to prevent the support from moving if the system is accidentally jogged (unlikely but I'm a little paranoid about this) and also to prevent possible mechanical damage to the tiny little components soldered to the card surface.
A thick rubber band, cut into suitable lengths and glued on will be perfect.

i mean to support the back of the card, i have it screwed in but the back is lower then the other end of the card cuz its heavy

Not really an issue unless you're going to move the system around a lot, in which case it's a far better idea to remove the card beforehand.
A wooden support would be a better option, most DIY shops will cut to length if you ask nicely-batten sized (1/2"x1") will do nicely. Stick a rubber pad onto each end- it's less likely to slide if the system is knocked.
BTW if you're trying for 'system mod of the week' award you've a long way to go. 😉

So the duplo's wont give any static damage? i dont have rubber pads for it 🙁 im just gonna put them under it

Being plastic Duplo/Lego bricks are more likely to build up a static charge when handled than wood, so it's actually better to use thin rubber rather than thick, that way any charge that does build up will ground more easily through the case.
Key point is grounding yourself, either by touching a wall (if it's masonry/poured concrete) or a grounded electrical item, like the computer case, to dissipate any static charge that builds up. Once the support is installed there will be no static issues.

So if i just use wood i dont have to use rubber?
