i have a ASROCK ALIVENF6G-DVI and am gon to upgrade my comp with a new graphics card (ati 4850) i need to know if my mobo's pci-e slot spports this. is it pci-e 1.0, 1.0a or 1.1

The Radeon 4850 is supported by the PCI Express x16 slot available on your MB. Not the PCI Express x 1 that is also available.

but i've been hearing that its only backwards compatible with 1.1, not 1.0 or 1.0a

You have a 16x PCI Express expansion slot that will support the 4850 or any PCIE video card. That's all that matters. PCIE 1.0 and the newer MB's with PCIE 2.0 are backwards compatible. Your MB supports PCIE. That's all you need.
