Hello, and what should I buy?

It's more that it was too cheap before. I would hardly call AMD expensive.

Not to get mushy or anything, but as you said you "almost bit the dust", I'm glad your Intel loving butt is still with us.
As to why Amd is better, isn't that obvious, it doesn't get so screeming hot, and it's a lot more stable.
Better IPC helps to.
If coders would start optimizing for it, Intel's chips would look really bad.

<can you mongrels tell me why is Amd so expensive now?

I take you mean the dual core. Well it's double the size then a single core, so it costs more to make one. Same goes with Intel of course, but Intel is dumping prizes of their inferior DC CPU's to stop AMD gaining more market share.

<can anyone really prove that amd is better than Intel?

Almost anybody really, except THG.

and can anyone really prove that amd is better than Intel?
Yes, I can. If AMD weren't better, then you wouldn't ask this question

What could anybody have against VIA?
I don't understand this hatred towards VIA and all their bug-free and robust chipsets.

Strange.

Yes I know.
Last time I bought a mobo my most important criteria was it must *not* have VIA nor MSI written on it.

I was just trying to be funny.

I hear VIA has a good sound processor. It would be funny to see VIA pushed out of the middle by ATI and nVidia, then pushed out of the bottom by SiS and ULi...and end up going head to head with Creative!

VIA vs Creative, now there's a battle I'd like to see...whoever looses, everybody wins!

You don't have to fix the board, just wait for the <A HREF="http://www.msisettlement.com/" target="_new">settlement</A> and MSI will be forced to fix it free.
I just read that <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=221991#221991" target="_new"> "Best perf/price cpu for that old board?"</A>thread and remembered the posts I read about
MSI K7T PRO 2-A a couple of years back.
Reading many of those posts, that board seemed to have about one-year life expectancy and now I know that was not the only one of MSI product lines that was(is?) equipped with this day-after-warranty-blow-up feature.

Good link, thanks.

The VIA/Creative duel I'd like to see.

really? wow i hope VIA does make a dual on creative, creative have the full market to themselves for far too long, have you seen the prices of them new soundblaster audigy??

Well look who it aint...

I suggest you get an AMD chip mr melty... specifically a Socket 462 chip with no cooler ontop.

Just to satisfy your 'unusual' sexual urges. :)
