Hello guys! i'm trying something crazy which is build a laptop from desktop parts and i need help

as I said in the title imma try building a laptop from desktop parts and I kinda\not quite have plans but I'll figure it out somehow as I go through this project

what components do I need?

I found this motherboard on eBay but I'm not quite sure what it supports in terms of CPU and Ram :

for the CPU I got a slightly used G3258 ( That I had before upgrading to i7)

and I'm thinking of getting a couple of sticks of this: Kingston ValueRAM 4GB DDR3 1333MHz KVR13N9S8/4 (Trying to keep a low profile for a thin-ish laptop at the end)

I'm not so sure if this board supports what I mentioned so I need help figuring that out xD

and for a GPU I've got my old HD7850 2GB OC edition that I used to have before upgrading to my RX480 and I ordered some PCI-E extender off of eBay to lay it flat *again for the thin-ish laptop*

and for the screen, I could use some 1080p Laptop screen and some adapter to be able to connect it to my graphics card

for the power... Ummm I'll figure it out somehow lol 😀

you should be able to build something like a aio pc. or trying to put everything in a briefcase. likely you will need to diy a bracket for your gpu and connect it with riser cable.
if you want to have a battery. the simplest solution i can think of is a deep cycle battery with invertor with enough va rating. (however, this won't be cheap)

Interesting idea :) hope it goes well!

If i can offer a little advise, although the idea is good, i'd start with the chassis/laptop shell first. After all, it's well and good wanting to put in a desktop class GPU, which for a laptop will be massive, but in that case You're almost better considering an HTPC. Some HTPC chassis are very low profile, but may make it easy for you to use your existing parts. You could get a mATX, HTPC chassis and use the parts you have. Just won't be a laptop.

There are bare bone laptop's you can buy online. Will come with chassis, and often the mobo already installed. From their select CPU, if you can find a laptop mobo that supports the G3528, then you can just swap them out, and build from there.

If you go with a specific laptop variation mobo, you will not be able to use the ram above. You will need so-dimm ram for laptops.

I don't expect it to be thin but the whole thing is possible, right? XD
like buying that cheap motherboard and desoldering the longer io plugs like the audio ones and the PS2 and getting some low profile ram and low profile CPU cooler and laying the video card flat or some other crazy way of cooling the CPU and GPU to make it even thinner i dunno lol
i've got an image in my mind of the "finished product" i'll try to mock it up on some kind of picture or a short film to get things clear xD
and thanks for all the suggestions guys! 😀 these suggestions might be useful as i go through this "laptop" xD

maybe i could like use it with a power adapter? just like a laptop charger but stronger to be able to power up the GPU?

The sticking point here is the battery concept.
Desktop level parts will get you maybe a hours worth of runtime from a car size battery. Less if you include the monitor.

If you use laptop parts, then you can run it off regular laptop battery or power adapter.
But then you just have a laptop in a crappier, larger, case.

so is there a power adapter that's capable of giving at least 550 watts? and portable?

i do have a laptop already though but this thing is like a... OTG gaming at least that's how it is in my mind xD
i dont' really mind running it off the mains

No, there is not a little laptop size power adapter capable of coughing up 550 watts.
You're looking at a regular desktop PSU.

In addition...a laptop size power adapter does not have the relevant connections for a desktop motherboard.

Laptop component draw far less power than desktop part, Most desktop runs 150-250w under load and since you do lots of conversions efficiency will be pretty bad. a 300ah battery last you 1- 1 1/2 hr in game session session. On average laptop, that can last you pretty much a full day. Or 6-8 hr gaming session.
