Hello everyone,
I'm getting my son a new PC for gaming / youtube / facebook use only...

He likes this one:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gamer-ultra-desktop-amd-fx-series-8gb-memory-1tb-hard-drive-blue-silver/1306879222.p?id=mp1306879222&skuId=1306879222

I'm curious as to how well this PC will play games....
My son is wanting to play on ultra/high settings and plays things like battlefield4, skyrim, world of warcraft, minecraft and some steam games.

Now, couple other questions if I could...
I can get the PC above at a couple different places for about $850(plus tax)

My first question: how much would it cost me to build that same exact PC at Microcenter/newegg?
(I prefer Microcenter as I can drive there).

My second question: can I build a better PC for $850? if yes....does anyone have any ideas? using this website http://pcpartpicker.com/

We both like the case with the viewing window on the side and the LED lights 😉

Thanks in advance for any input/info/answers anyone can give me :)

Solution

Will do....Thanks!

Off to a good start 😀
Quick update....

Took a ride to micro center before they closed(about 10minutes from my house) and grabbed what I needed from there.
They had a deal going😀

Got the Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor for $179.99
and if I bought a motherboard with the processor I got $40 off the motherboard 😀
Walked out of there paying $79.99 and got a $20 mail in rebate too.
leaving it a total cost of $59.99 for the Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard 😀😀😀

Now off to order the rest online :pt1cable:

Could I get your input on a couple things?

This is what I bought...
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RXVvmG

changed a couple things at micro center to save me on shipping time...

However, I can return anything before I open it if It will cause me to lose any performance compared to what you had picked...

Optical drive we never picked one :) so I went with what uthvag suggested
However the Model number is a bit off from here
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-optical-drive-drw24b1stblkbas

I got DRW-24B1st-38 <-----what's with the -38 ?

I also went and bought a power supply at micro center(save on that shipping time)...
If this will cost me any performance loss
please let me know and It will be returned....
I bought this...
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-110b10750vr

and the storage...
tried to save that extra couple bucks and they sold me this.
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-3-5-Inch-Mainstream-WDBH2D0010HNC-NRSN/dp/B00D8X0JRU

Is this compatiable?
I can't find it on http://pcpartpicker.com at all...
and on the amazon link if you scroll down a bit you see "Frequently Bought Together"
Do I need that cable?
should I return this and find the Seagate Barracuda online?

and last the fans....saved a few bucks and changed name brand.
my question is with the case I bought can I run the extra two fans (like you suggested)
into the fan control built into the case along side the 3 fans that came with the case.
(all 5 fans on that built in fan control switch)?

or do I need a separate fan control for the two new fans....

Thanks for letting me pick at your brain again :)

please take a look at what I bought and let me know if them changes are fine or if I will have any performance loss (power supply concerns me)....as does the storage cable listed on amazon...

No idea on the optical drive, sorry.

I've never seen that storage before so I really can't tell you much about it. I mostly see Seagate Barracudas and WD Blues. I'm sure you could return it and get one of the HDDs I just mentioned if you find that it doesn't work though (assuming you bought that at MicroCenter). I'd go with the Seagate Barracuda though.

No, you don't need a separate fan control it should work if you wire them up correctly onto the fan controller. Tbh you don't even need extra fans at all - the case has really good airflow.

That power supply is okay and will be fine if you aren't really stressing the system. Good EVGA PSUs are B2, G2, and P2.

No problem!

Just wanted to stop in and say....Thanks again for your help!!!

My son loves his new system...(he got it (in pieces) and we put it together on Christmas day 😀 )

great running machine....runs all his games on ultra settings with no problems or issues....we couldn't be happier :)

here is the final build...
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Immortalized68/saved/WXQhP6

I ended up going with the NZXT Phantom 530 case :) (wanted that bigger side panel window)
(It shows all LED fans....I only put 2 LED fans in it....the other 3 are just regular NZXT case fans...the site didn't list the non-LED fans I bought so I just added the LED's to the list....the non-LED fans were only like a $2 difference in price)

The picture is showing a pinkish/purple color but he keeps it on the setting to slowly rotate through all the colors.....(pic in link below)

Again....Thank you so much!!!
we love it!!!
I recommend this build to anyone looking to build something in the same price range....A great running and performing machine!!!
