hello, ... 2.1 speakers come with a left and a right speaker and an additional sub-woofer. (2.1 is 2 channel plus sub woofer )
and 5.1 speakers are set of speakers consisting of 5 speakers which includes 2 left speakers, 2 right speakers, 1 center speaker and a sub-woofer. Like 5.1 speakers there are 2.1 and 7.1 speakers as well. These speakers are meant for home users who connect it DVD players and computers.

Speaker systems are typically given in the form of x.y, where

x is the number of speakers
y is the number of sub-woofers

For example, a 5.1 system is [typically]: 2 front speakers, 2 side/rear speakers, 1 center speaker, and one sub-woofer. Thats 5 total speakers and 1 sub-woofer. A 4.1 system is the same, minus the center speaker. Etc.
