I am a PC virgin, never owned or built one in my entire life. I do own both the consoles though, and that * just won't cut it anymore lol. However a friend of mine is getting rid of his rig for a laptop and it'd would be great if you guys could tell me if its a decent setup to run BF3 and whether i should make improvements or not, I know there have been a lot of these topics, but i'd really appreciate it if you guys could help a fellow gamer out? Thanks, the specs are as follows:

AMD Quad Core Processor 2.8 Ghz,
6 gigs DDR3 RAM, 1tb of memory
Radeon 5770 Graphic Card 1 gig memory and a
650 watt power supply

It's alright, but it's not spectacular. It'll run current and future releases, at around medium settings I'd say.

The RAM is good enough, the CPU will do, but I'd suggest you upgraded your GPU based on the small amount of info you've given us :)

Danger points to look out for are:

1 - A crap PSU (Antec, Corsair, Seagate are the best, anything else is sub-par.) PSU's power everything, so if you have a dodgy PSU, it'll be more likely to fail and quite possibly damage everything plugged into it. You can still use any PSU (I have a crap PSU at present which I keep meaning to upgrade) but to be honest, you'd make sure your second hand car was safe before you bought it, so why not your PC?

2 - A dodgy OC (overclock). If your friend has OCed his GPU/CPU ineptly then it'll become your problem when/if it starts playing up. Ask him if he's Overclocked it, and if he has then you'll probably want to watch the temperatures of the PC carefully when you first get it (though I'd advise doing that anyway). Download a program like HM Monitor when you get it, which'll tell you what temperature the components are running at.

3 - Virus/Spyware/Malware. Clear it, clean it, check it. Then go ahead and use it. Nothing like the pervasive stink of a virus that won't go away, especially if it's someone else who's got the PC infected.

I probably should mention more, but I'm shattered, and those are the main points :)

There isn't such a thing as future proof but the system you have chosen is very well balanced and should last you a very long time.

Well this guy just told me i went a little overboard on the Gaming Case and the DVD driver, any suggestions, should i go for the cheapest ones instead. And another question i had was, how much of an affect does this setup have on your electricity bill, i'm mean i just got a 1000w power supply and all?

If you are a fan of the hafx then cooler master makes the haf 912 which is a great case for the money or the storm scout. Your optical drive can be 19.99 amd do what you need it to with a DVD drive and all. 1000W wont use the entire rating unless your components collectively use it. You could get by on your build with 600w. Getting 1000w will ensure you of no psu upgrade if you decide on a dual gpu setup down the road which is a good idea to prepare even if you never do it

I don't think you'll need a HAF-X at all, so a HAF 922 or HAF 912 is enough.
Also, just because you have a 1000W PSU doesn't mean that it will draw 1000W every single time. It just says that it can allow a maximum output of 1000W.
To tell you the truth, I don't think you'll be needing 1000W PSU, a 750W PSU like that of Zephyr's is really good and cheap and it has the added support of SLi or Xfire, even for a 560Ti.

Duly noted lol, like i said i'm a noob at this, so i just went with what looked the best. But i'll keep your suggestions in mind before i make the final decision. And btw i'm getting all this on installment, do you think thats a good idea or not?

Also, is 12GB RAM not a bit much? :)

We were just discussing this in another thread, and the general consensus was that 8GB is pretty much all you'd ever need for gaming.

Otherwise, good build :)

Hehe there was an ebay.co.uk workstation going with 64GB RAM a few weeks ago. Pretty impressive, though totally useless for average gamer joes like me :p

Sometimes "the more, the merrier" sounds all right, but there's still a limit... Just stuck 4 more GB of DDR3 in the case, so enough for the damned BF3...

And still... 64GB?! :eek:
