Hey guys, building my first gaming PC ever. Swapping from a laptop since it couldn't run games (Y570)
So here is my current build, what do you think of it and give some advice if needed :)

Cpu: Fx-6300
Gpu: I'm not decided yet on 270x or 280x. In my country 270x costs 250$ while 280x costs 350$.
Mobo: Asus m5a97 LE 2.0
Case: Aerocool GT-R Black Gaming Case
Ram: Crucial Ballistix Elite 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 1866 CL9 Ram
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX Internal Hard Disk
Psu: Aerocool Strike-X 500w 80Plus Bronze Psu

Now, my questions:
1. Is 500 watts enough to power my computer? If not how many watts should I get?
2. 270x or 280x? Is the 280x worth it for 350$ or the 250$ 270x is already good enough.
And if ever, hawk or gaming msi?
3.Fx-6300 good enough for most games or should I get a Fx-8320 instead for more "future-proofing"

Hope you guys help me in building my first PC :) thanks!

Matt

Solution
1) Yes, 500W is enough for your system but I am not too sure about the strike x series from aerocool. You should maybe look at a better quality psu

2) There is quite a large gap between 270x and 280x in terms of performance and if you can spend that extra $100, then get the 280x, else the 270x is quite a good card. Either msi will be fine as both are good, although I think the hawx overclocks better

3) The 6300 is a good budget processor and it should be fine

You can also consider 1600Mhz ram (no need for 1866), if it is cheaper though

Their older psu's where a bit troublesome but maybe the strike x should be a bit better. Also the strike x is made by Andyson and they are a bit of a hit and miss in terms of quality. Their are also no reviews on that particular psu on the net, so he would be taking a gamble

Thanks for the quick replies!
What brand would be good for PSUs then? And if I will get the 8320 instead, is 500w still enough for it? Oh and if I'll go with msi gaming instead as I do not overclock that much

Corsair is the psu bran i use and it is amazing and lasts through multiple builds
Thermaltake also make good psu's

And if you have the extra 50$ upgrade toand 8350$ it is one of the best processors on the market and overclocks like a champ

1. Get the Corsair TX650M (future proof, I assure you.)
2. Choose the 270X, a little overclocking can beat the 280X (maybe? not much of a fan of AMD)
3. MSI Hawk :) Better choice hehe :D

Good luck :D

The new range of amd is really good bang for buck better than some of the nvidia cards finally this is good competitions pushed the companies to make better products

Agreed. Better products, intense competition, advantage of the consumers.

Not to mention, Lower prices! :) They will have to keep releasing new cards for them to win. Releasing new cards = Lower prices mid-range cards.

Good brands like corsair, seasonic, antec, xfx or any psu made by seasonic is usually good.

For the psu, it depends more on what graphics card you are going to get. If you are getting the 280x, then get a good 600W psu from the names mentioned above or if you are going with the 270x, then a good 550W psu would be fine

If you can afford it then get the 280x and stick with the fx6300. I would personally put the gpu before the cpu in terms of priority, unless the cpu is providing a major bottleneck, in which case the fx6300 will not

Okay, I'll go get the fx-8320 then :D and if 270x can be overclocked to a performance near the 280x I'll go with the hawk instead. I'll also go change my psu's brand. Thanks for the replies guys

No, an overclocked 270x would in no way match the performance or get even close to a 280x. Both of them are not at all similar and their is a clear difference between the 270x and the 280x

You should look for a case with allot of ventilation. Make sure it is not too closed and has vents underneath, on the top (hot air rises, so most of it would escape through the top) and on the sides. This would also allow you to add in more fans to draw in air "intake fans" and get rid of hot air "exhaust fans" which is also important

Basically good airflow is a necessity, but so is good looks, no one wants an ugly looking case :D

Have a look around, their are plenty out their to suite every budget and your tastes in designs
