Help and support service not working for Windows XP

The "Help and Support" service from the Start button of Windows XP is not responding. There is no error either. On running a scanner device it says start the help service....

Hmm.

Press Start > Run and type 'regedit.exe' without the quotes, then press Okay.

Does the registry editor appear?

If not then I think you may have a virus.

Is you antivirus unable to connect to the internet?
