hey, i just got some artic silver 2, and was careful to scrape off the old pink thermal tape before i applied it. but while applying the as2, i accidentally got some on the ceramic, so i first used dishwashing detergent like the instructions said to do. when that proved to be almost useless i used goo-gone which is also ok. i only used this on the ceramic, so on the core and hsf i used ispropyl alchohol. i thought i had cleaned it all off so i reapplied cleanly and set the hsf on top and clipped with no twisting. but now my computer wont even post to the BIOS.
It is overclocked but i never had ANY troubles before this and i didnt change ANY jumper or bios settings before doing this. I am 100% certain no artic silver touched any of the L1-7 bridges but i do know that some touched the little box looking things around the core. Could this render my cpu dead or does it just need more cleaning? Ive cleaned this sucker 3 times and still nothin, does anyone have a trick?

AntiPop,

When I switched from the thermal pad to AC2, I used some CRC Letra-Motive (electric parts cleaner No. 05018) aerosol. The can doesn't say what's in it, but it's a fairly mild solvent that leaves little or no residue. It worked MUCH better to remove the pink pad residue (less scrapping, more wiping) and excess AC2 (stupid little tube ALWAYS spits out more than you want!) than either detergent or isopropyl alcohol. You should be able to pick up some at most auto parts stores.

If you just need to clean your CPU better, this might do it, but I wouldn't soak it in the stuff. You may need to do some quick "flushing" to get it out from some gaps or something. I didn't spray it all over or anything, just used it on a Q-tip, then finished with isopropyl on a lense paper to remove fibers, etc.

The other trick I used was to lightly score the bottom of the heat sink through the pink pad just OUTSIDE the impression in the pad. I then removed the pad and lapped the heat sink just for good measure. The score marks are still there after lapping, and give you a target to spread just the right amount of AC2, in the right place on the heatsink rather than the core itself. It just bothered me to run a razor blade over the core so I figured out this workaround. Seems to be working fine, maybe a 2-3C drop?

I wish I could tell you what those "little box things" are, but hey, I'm just a grease monkey at heart  . Remember to check all the basics, too. Easy to forget something once you get flustered.

i got it goin again. and if anyone is trying to decide whether to buy the stuff or not heres my experience: be a little careful when doin it, get it right the first time and it will save you a lot of time

while doing this i lapped a little off my FOP 32-1 and with the artic silver 2, my temperature went down 8 DEGREES CELCIUS!!!!!!!!!! im really impressed
