Need help my Asus m5a97 Motherboard wont sit flush with I O shield due to a tab sticking off the purple keyboard port on Motherboard. Should I cut it off? Will that ruin my motherboard warranty since it is connected to the board? I haven't tested the board yet so I also want to be able to return it if its DOA. ts really annoying haha why did they even include that keyboard port everyone should be using usb keyboards like an adult by now.

The manual doesn't even reference dealing with this step of the install. I can get it to line up with the top screw hole with some pressure but its more then I feel comfortable and I would prefer my board to be sitting correctly in the case..

Yeah, removing that will definitely void the warranty if you ever have to RMA it. That is suppose to be there anyway for static grounding. No one else has an issue with those tabs. maybe you aren't doing it right. Push the board into the IO plate and start a screw.

Btw, using a PS2 KB doesn't make one any less of an adult. Not everyone cares about gaming.

Thanks for the response. Yes I already tried to search for anyone with this board having a similar issue and no one seems to have had it. This is probably my 4th Asus board I cant remember ever having as issue like this. Even if I lay the IO board on top of the motherboard out of the case it definitely pushes away right at that tab. Im going to go to my parents house and rip apart some older builds and see if that helps me in anyway.

Yes it is its snug and secure. I have a Coresair 600t case and it snaps in no issue. Okay I got it to the point were it needs a small amount of pressure to line up with the top screw hole. I would prefer 0 pressure but should I just put some pressure on it and slip a screw in? I have read on some forums people saying it always takes some pressure to get the motherboard to line up with the screw holes.

Yes, put some pressure laterally on the MB to force it into position. Then sink a couple screws to hold it in place while you work on the rest. Be sure the other tabs are good. Nothing worse than getting the board all mounted and finding out one of the other tabs is sticking into one of the rear ports. Been there, done that.

Some pressure is fine. Just check where the board is making contact and make sure there's no metal on metal action going on. If you've mounted it on standoffs, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you're still worried, a picture would really help clear things up.
EDIT: Just saw your last post 😛

I use a PS2 Keyboard specifically because I do care about gaming. Infinite NKRO, no need to worry about USB bus bandwidth, don't have to deal with USB polling. I love motherboards that include a PS/2 port. And now I'm way off topic...

Okay thanks ill just get it over with and sink a few screws in it. I posted a picture of how close it gets with no pressure. It takes more pressure then I originally thought to move the board over that tiny bit to be aligned.

Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks for the reply! It actually takes a lot of pressure more then I feel comfortable using on sensitive electronics. Now that you have seen the picture, do you still think I should go for it?

I've had varying experiences with installing motherboards. Sometimes they fit like a glove, other times it takes some persuasion. While I don't have a perfect grasp of your situation, I've never had any problems using some pressure to get a motherboard to fit.

Again, the danger of using some pressure to get a motherboard to fit isn't necessarily the physical "strain," but the possibility that it's running into a piece of metal that might make contact with a solder point or IC or ANY piece of metal on the board. It doesn't sound like this is the case. It's up to you, but personally I would go for it.

Go slow, and if you hear the PCB crackle or anything, you might want to reconsider.

I think it is in correctly. The Case elevates the board so I believe nothing is touching or making contact. The mobo plugs dont line up 100% with the I O shield but I think its close enough. It might be minor imperfection of the case and board causing it to be a hair off. Board in case ---> http://imgur.com/YSIbSwj

Tbh all none issue's excluding key roll over fun there's lot of KBS that support full rollover

If you bored I made a video if that helps. Here is the Video on the IO board ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOam-KNFlRw&list=UUzQwkGpLq1PNFywt6zChzfg Here is a Video on the issue itself screws not lining up and I have noticed the plugs don't line up perfect either --- > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iYG9_J_OJQ&list=UUzQwkGpLq1PNFywt6zChzfg

It might not be the tab and just factory defects of the case and mobo. I kinda stop the video abruptly because I hear a weird sound and i stop haha I am trying hard not to break the board.

I stand corrected. I should have taken into consideration high end mechanical KBs. Heck, I'm still using my old PS2 IBM Model M clicky KB because none of the cheap USB KBs feel as good. (yes, I'm old)

Haha the Model M! I have friends who dream of owning one of those 😛
It's a little neurotic the lengths people go to get the "ultimate gaming experience," and sadly I must admit I've gone a bit off the deep end at times :)

But yeah, thanks for those videos! I see what you mean. I would try, as clutchc said, pushing laterally (horizontally) to get the board to fit over the screw holes. Pushing this direction shouldn't be a problem, the motherboard is strong in this direction and shouldn't break.
I was kind of hoping we'd be able to see you push the motherboard over the screw hole, just to get a sense of how much force is required, but I understand that would be a little difficult with only one hand 😛

Not sure I understand you, who dreams of this board? haha its cheap and that's one of the reason I bought it. Back in the day you had to pay like 150-200$ for an Asus board now you can get one for like 80$ like this one.

Also I looked at my older Asus boards and they all have that tab affixed to the IO plate not to the ps2 port on the actual motherboard like mine. The pro model of this board doesn't have the tab either. It seems most Asus boards dont but this is one of the few models that do.
