I'm being 100% honest when I say that the i5 is the best option here in my opinion. It will run all his games perfectly. He clearly plays more than BF4. He said BF4 and other intensive games. It's not like this will be a dedicated BF4 build.

The i5 and 280x in my build will be perfect for his needs at 1080p.

I would DEFINITELY not recommend an i3 to someone wanting to play BF4 especially when pairing it with a GPU like a 280x.

except the low clocked 3.2ghz haswell quad core ISNT substantially better then a 8 core fx on an overclocking board and aftermarket cpu cooler in battlefield 4.

the OP is all over the place with this build though... so let me chew on a better option.

that's a gpu bottlenecked benchmark... not a cpu bottlenecked one, though it does make my point.

well that's a 60hz 1080p monitor. there really is no apreciable difference in cpu bottlenecked titles in 1080p and 60hz if you got a piledriver clocked modestly up to around 4.4ghz... heck my own 8320 can hit 4.5ghz prime stable on STOCK vcore. so as i said... "modestly overclocked"

so i'm not sure why it even matters.

Frankly if i was going to rebuild this build i think i'd look at the case, first, then the cpu, maybe bump him down to a 6300... those clock well too... and are easier to overclock on a hyper evo 212 then a 8 core fx or intel... if the op didn't want to overclock then i'd probably point him at a high base clock speed i3 like the i3-4160 or 4360... and go from there.

I'll chew on this build further. you are 100% correct in adding a better gpu.
