Help!!! Cant run anything in XPpro SP2

Just reinstalled windows xp on my computer after it wouldnt allow me to run any program what so ever apart from the items like my computer and internet explorer or whatever (parts of windows), and after completely re-installing everything two days later the same problem happend on the fresh install of xp - i cant run anything software wise - i double click on shortcuts on the desktop and nothing happens, i run things in the start menu and nothing happens. On the other hand i restarted and got into safe mode and ran system restore and managed to fix it for a few hours before it happend again (restored to an earlier time). Has anyone else had the same trouble?

Sometimes my sys will hang for a bit... like I'll click on something as you mention and nothing happens, if I go to task manager, it's not listed as an active process, but then after 30 secs or so the prog will finally open.

It could be a driver conflict, make sure all latest drivers are updated. Use task manager to find out what is hanging.
I am running SP 2 also, and it helped my system.
