Help Choose laptop please

Hey, I'm a first year computer science student and am looking for a laptop - say for around $500. Size can be no bigger than 14", i want it to be lightweight and portable, and preferably long lasting; at least a couple years. Average battery life would suffice.

Maybe you guys have better suggestions but i was looking at the Latitude E5450, and another one on Best buy website.

What do you think, are these worth the money?

What are you planning to use it for? You say you are a computer science student so it would be nice to know if you will be doing any programming or modeling or something, or gaming (and what kinds of games).

Mostly Java, c++, Python, ruby, and a lil bit of mat lab as well. For games i guess league at 60fps is fine, nothing too heavy, avg gaming mostly.
