Hi, pretty new to the technicalities of ram so am quite unsure what to upgrade to, the brand and what specs would denote incompatibility.

Currently installed is Corsair XMS3 — 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz C9 Memory Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9).

Looking for 16gb with 2 8gb modules for my asus p8p67 deluxe mobo; would vengeance pro's work on my system? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! The pc is mostly used for gaming.

Thanks.

What CPU? It will be the determining factor as to 'what' DRAM (data rates) you can run, if a K model would look to 2x8GB - maybe 1866 or 2133 if OCing the CPU at all. I'd look at the GSkill Ripjaws X or Sniper lines of DRAM

Thanks for that link, I have actually looked there before and the lists seems very old from what I can gather and doesn't include many of the options available today.

Thta's because it's quite an old chipset and they don't test all models, and have probably discontinued supported device updates, but you are safer getting RAM on the list. Your best choice would be to have the same model of RAM.

You'll need to be more specific about which Vengeance Pro ram for a more specific answer as there are several. Do you plan on replacing your old ram or adding to it?

I plan on replacing the 2x4gb with a 2x8gb set.

The pro ram I am thinking is the most likely to co-operate is this: http://www.corsair.com/en-au/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-1600mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a1600c9

And a 16gb kit from the same line as the existing set I think might work is this: http://www.corsair.com/en-au/xms3-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmx16gx3m2a1600c11

Thanks again

Yeah both of those should be ok, and the Vengeance have the exact same timing as your current RAM so are quite a good match, but if they aren't on the QVL then there's always a chance they wont work, but they both look fine.

Try using partpicker to choose parts, as it'll tell you any known incompatibilities. It says that RAM is compatible btw.

Yes thank you, I reckon the Vengeance might be worth a shot. Probably sounds really stupid to someone with experience but it doesn't matter about the different length along the ram that the notch is cut out right?

Ok sweet thanks for all the tips!
