Hi everyone,

I’m planning to build a new PC primarily for AI development and also for gaming. Since I’m unsure how to best allocate my budget, I’m looking for your expertise and suggestions. 😊

My Budget:

  • €3000-5000

Purpose:

  1. AI Development:
    • Processing and training language models for my KI project.
    • Handling complex formulas and generating visualized computations.
  2. Gaming:
    • Playing demanding games at high resolution and smooth frame rates.

Key Requirements:

  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4090 (preferably with 24 GB, or more if available).
  • CPU:
    • I’ve always been an Intel fan, but I’ve seen AMD catching up significantly over the past few years.
    • My main concern with AMD is the reported use of lower-quality wafers, which might impact longevity.
    • Open to recommendations on which is better for my use case: AMD or Intel?
  • Motherboard: Preferably from ASUS, as I’ve always had good experiences with their products.

Important Considerations:

  • RAM: At least 64 GB DDR5 RAM, as I’ll be working with heavy AI computations.
  • Storage: Fast NVMe SSD (1-2 TB) for quick data access.
  • PSU: Reliable power supply with adequate wattage and high efficiency (minimum 80+ Gold certified).
  • Cooling: Efficient and quiet cooling, as the system will often run under high load.
  • Case: Spacious, well-ventilated, and with room for future upgrades.

My Background:

  • I’ve switched between Intel and AMD in the past, and while I currently lean towards Intel, I’m unsure which would better suit my needs now.
  • I prefer ASUS components but am open to other reliable brands.
  • AI development and gaming are my primary applications.

What I’m Looking For:

I’d like to spark a discussion and draw inspiration from your experiences. Specifically, I’m interested in:

  1. Your opinion on AMD vs. Intel for my specific needs.
  2. Recommendations for prebuilt systems or custom configurations.
  3. Your favorite motherboards and other hardware components.
  4. Feedback on alternative setups and proven hardware for similar projects.
Thank you in advance for your help! I’m excited to hear your thoughts and suggestions. 😊

Best regards,
Gabbahead

In my own semi-uninformed opinion on this, if you are looking to do the baddest 4090 out there you are looking in the neighborhood of $3800-4000+ (Sorry, American).
If you are looking to do along the lines of the highest end AI CPU from Intel Ultra (285K) and all those other perks you will either need to consider building in stages or add a significant amount to your budget.

Pick 9950x. It beats every Intel CPU, both performance and stability. If you want to save a bit for other items, 7950x is fine if it's only 440$ too in your area.
For motherboards, there're $220 x670e motherboards in my area.

Hey, this SSD is a QLC SSD, it's only recommended for games storing their large games, not for AI Researchers!!
