Question Help connecting a server with a JBOD - what is missing?

I have a HPE Proliant server with an AVAGO host bus adapter card. The JBOD is an HPE 3PAR 8000e.

To simplify, I installed win server 2022.

Card is recognized by the HPE server. Card bios sees HPE 3PAR unit connected via SAS cables.

Then nothing, I don't see disks. What am I missing? Windows disk management doesn't show disks, I was not sure if it would, so I assume a layer is missing?

I thought that this presentation would just make the server see raw disks, D: E: F: etc...

Do I need a software layer or is a raid card really required? I want to see raw disks and configure them myself. If anyone has any experience with configuring one of these, I would be grateful.

Is there any information I can provide that is missing which could help the community understand the issue I have getting a server to see the disks on a JBOD.

The question of whether a RAID controller is required is open, that should be true/false independent of the hardware?
