I'm on a dying PIII with insufficient power to split the one USB port still working. I've got various USB adapters, including a [USB single + 5-PIN FEMALE] cable that looks like it could go somewhere on the motherboard with 5 PINS but I don't know where. I'm building my next computer myself but need this old klunker to hang in there with me for another week or two.

HELP!

if your one usb port is working 100% you could just use a powered usb hub.

it sounds like you have one of these http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Xfv5Xh02L.jpg which fits onto the usb header on the board which looks like the blue thing here http://www.bill-mcminn.com/pchelp/USB%20Header%20Pins.jpg

however, if you're not getting sufficient power, adding another port may not fix that issue. it would only fix if you're having issues with a particular usb controller or if your actual ports are damaged. since you already have it, you could try but i cant guarantee anything.
