Dear All

I inserted my new CPU in to the PackardBell today, and my worst fears were confirmed: The PC screen did not light up!

I saw the motherboard and it is indeed an ACER motherboard. Please see attatched images

Here is some additional writing on the motherboard:

Acer Inc. e1
H67H2-AD

Please can you help me identify the motherboard through acer, and the available BIOS updates for this motherboard

I really need your help!

Thanking you,

Ray

goodluck, I hope it works for you.

you can see the "budget gaming pc" in my sig. My old cpu is an i3-2120 .. upgraded it to i7-2600k, and it has become much faster. Did not need to change anything in the bios. Just replaced the cpu, and it worked fine.

you're welcome. Btw, once you get an i7-2600k.. I suggest not to use the hyper threading ability, a program started behaving weird on my pc when I enabled ht. The i7-2600k is already much faster than your old cpu anyway, no need to enable ht.

no, don't install anything for now.

did you change anything in the bios when installing the previous 3770k?

run CPU-Z, and show me the bios version that you have.

but basically, just put in the cpu first without installing anything, see if it will work.

Dear @Tac 25

Thank you so much for the link.

I hope so too. Google says that the i7-2600 was released in January 2011. Hopefully a BIOS version in August should work.

I am going to buy the cpu.

I will definitely let you know if it works.

Thank you once again :)

don't touch anything in the BIOS, I repeat do not. Until it is tested that the new CPU does not work with the bios that you have, then for goodness sake, do not touch it. You might create serious problem where there is none before.

Dear @Tac 25

It is with much delight that I can now confirm that my computer is successfully running an intel i7 - 2600K !

I finally recieved it, installed it and booted the computer. The screen lit and all the icons were really large as if the resolution was lower.

As soon as the computer started, it installed all of the new graphics drivers and once restarted, everything became normal again.

I did not notice much of a performance increase immediately, but after a day, I have been able to open MS apps in around 2 -3 seconds!

Thankyou so much for all of your advice and support. I was a bit nervous about the BIOS and all, but your advice was really helpful.
Also, as regarding the drivers, you were right: there was no need to do anything prior to installation, and I am glad I didn't!

Thankyou once again,

Ray

@CRT120Hz

glad to hear the good news. You have the same CPU now as my budget gaming pc. Yeah, and it's much faster than your old cpu by a lot.
some games would load a lot faster now for you. If you play games, I suggest getting a 1050ti or any 16 series gpu if you can.. to take advantage of your i7-2600k. :)

just don't forget this please. If you activate hyper threading, certain programs in your pc might behave weird - for example, when turned on hyper threading on my i7-2600K, my video encoder Xvid4psp suddenly cannot encode even a single video ( errors on every vid). So if you don't need the additional speed, don't turn on hyper threading. Hyper threading is turned off in mine, and it still performs well.

Dear @Tac 25

Thankyou so much for the recommendations.

I will definitely look into the 1050ti GPU. I understand that this is a graphics card that comes with a heat sink fan?

I have played some microsoft flight simulator games, and it does load faster. I am also trying to install some more add ons too

I will definitely not turn on hyper threading.

I am also considering an upgrade to ssd as well.

Thank you one again

@CRT120Hz

you're welcome. I hope your cpu does not encounter problems. :)

btw, if you're going to buy a gpu. Always go for brand new, don't buy second hand. The 1050 ti that I own has 2 fans. Anyway, a 1650 would be even better. They are similarly priced, so if a 1650 is available in stores in your area, then go for that. This is my GTX 1650. Will work for your motherboard, it works even on my oldest pc which only has Pcie 1.0 slot. Your board has pcie 2.0. And before buying, measure your case if the gpu will fit into it.

yes, SSD would be a decent upgrade to your pc as well.

Thank you so much @Tac 25 !
my PC is much more stable now.
I will certainly check the graphics card space. Thanks for the spoiler too.

I didn't know my computer had a pcie slot.
Does this mean I can upgrade to a pcie ssd?

@CRT120Hz

the black expansion slot at the bottom, that's where you put a gpu in. :)
is this your motherboard? https://the620guy.com/product/acer-...socket-lga-1155-h67-motherboard-mb-sff07-001/

and one last suggestion. In case you cannot afford a 1050ti or a 1650, because gpu prices are still high these days.

you could try getting a GT 1030 (the GDDR5 version). This is a small graphics card that will almost surely fit your case. It is still fairly good for light gaming.
the GT 1030 has a DDR4 version, be careful not to get that, because the DDR4 version is weak. Please watch video if you want more info.
