We have an old laptop no longer used, about 10 years old. Wondering if it would be suitable for our 8 year old son, just for Minecraft mainly.

Specs of the old one seem comparable to most low end laptops but it's OS is vista, thinking of updating to Windows 10 would make it usable.

Will it be comparable to a low end $300-$400 replacement?

Asus notebook F5SL series

Processor: Inter Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
Storage: unsure, has 2 drives
OS: Windows Vista SP2

Thank you for any help

If anything, an upgrade to Windows 10 on that computer would slow it down even more, as it's made for newer equipment. Here is a reasonably-priced Windows 10 laptop that I would suggest as a replacement.

I wouldn't say the specification of the Asus F5SL is comparable to $300-$400 laptops today. F5SL is running an old dual-core processor with likely DDR2 memory and the graphics card is beaten by many integrated graphics chips these days. Many low-end i3 processors pretty much smoke the T6400.

I do not think it will be able to run Minecraft but should be okay for online flash/java games. It's not a bad little system for your son to muck around on, but it's not worth upgrading to Windows 10 on an old laptop.

I've listed below some potential replacement low-budget laptops between $300-$400, that comes with decent hardware for the price and will be able to run Minecraft:

HP 14-CF0014DX $399.00
Dell Inspiron I3567 $365.00
