Hi everyone -

I have a problem that I cannot seem to fix at all, and none of the fixes on the various sites / YouTube work. There is no guidance posted on the ASUS site either, or in the mobo tech manual.

The ASUS software wizard was updating itself and it told me that the BIOS was out of date and asked me if I would like to update it. I told it yes. It saved a copy of software to a USB drive and then installed itself. Now, when the computer boots, all the power comes one, the fans, LED lights, etc., all start. It goes to an American Megatrends boot screen. The screen says it sees a USB keyboard, a mouse, and the three SATA HDs on board. It then tells me to hit F1 to enter the BIOS. However, when I do that, nothing happens. It does not advance on its own and it does not start the OS. (Win 10 - whatever the most current build is). I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work, and I am at a loss.

The steps I have taken -

1) I have tried other keys, other than F1 - F2, which is the old BIOS boot key and what the manual tells me it is. I have also used - Esc., Del., and Enter. There is even a super old You Tube where the kid says to hit "Y" and that will start it. None of these worked.

2) I have tried removing and replacing the CMOS battery with a new one - that didn't work.

3) The keyboard is receiving power - I can see the LED lights on it lighting up. It is a digital, soft touch Logitech board, not a mechanical keyboard plugged into a USB 2.0 port, so I attached a PS/2 adapter to see if it would communicate through the PS/2 port - that failed.

4) I dug out an actual old PS/2 keyboard, not a USB keyboard with an adapter, and did the above, because the command line isn't getting loaded and did all of the above. That doesn't work either.

I don't know what else to try.

I have an OLD build that works just fine, and had for about 10+ years. It is as follows:

Cpu - MD FX 8300
Gpu - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB (EVGA)
Motherboard - Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Cpu Cooler - Liquid Cooled
Ram - (x2) G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz - 16 total
SSD - Samsung 870 EVO 1TB (SATA (SSD)) - All operations software is loaded on this drive.
HDD (x2) - WD 1TB (SATA) - Data Drive / Seagate 2TB (SATA) - RAID Backup drive
DVD Drive - Samsung - external

If anyone has any ideas here - I will be forever in your debt. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Respectfully,

Russ Brown

You forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU and it's age. As for your motherboard, I'm assuming your BIOS got corrupt, if that did indeed happen then you will need to get a hold of a CH341A BIOS programmer and reflash the BIOS with the latest BIOS version listed on your motherboard's support site.
