Hi everyone,

Have really enjoyed scouring this forum for ideas/thoughts/tips since and posted last night with some great discussion with a poster here. I'm back with another proposal/potential rig, hope people won't find it annoying, I'm not trying to spam for every little detail...

Basically, I'm looking to get into PC gaming. With Rust in particular definitely taking my fancy but I will dabble in others as I go. I understand that Rust is quite a demanding game that even elite builds can struggle with. To say I'm fairly green in doing a PC build would be an understatement; although I've been reading a stack about things lately and am ready for the challenge.

Like everyone, I'm looking to get the best balance between performance whilst maintaining a reasonable budget. My plan has been to look at getting some parts second hand, from perhaps other gamers who have upgraded, but to also buy certain parts new which I think will be a good compromise to achieve my goals.

I'm in Australia, and am looking to spend ~$700 but perhaps go slightly above if a compelling case was made in order to do so. Less would obviously be ideal...

In doing the round searching for options, I have come across this rig listed for $100AU:
Case: Cooler Master N600
CPU: Intel i5 2500 LGA (1155 SOCKET)
MoBo: ASUS P8H67-M
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 470
PSU: THERMALTAKE SMART 550W
HDD: 500GB WD

The PC comes with no OS or RAM which works fine for me. Am interested in opinions here, as I have thrown a couple of options around in my head being;

GPU: ((upgrade) Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti OC 4GB @ $239AU
RAM: Corsair Vengeance CMZ16GX3M2A1600C9 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 @ $189AU

Might also add:

SSD:Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD @ $139AU to have my OS and Rust on.

This brings me to $667AU. What do we think? Fire away because I am literally all ears on this one.

Couple of my own potential queries... - Are all of these parts compatible? - Could I be using better brands or cheaper alternatives that will perform the same? - Is the oldish i5 going to be too outdated and affect my gaming? - Am I fighting a losing battle here and no where near it?

I would honestly appreciate any and all opinions on whether or not this is a potentially good build/harvest or whether or not I should go in a different direction.

Thanks in advance from a guy who is pretty excited and in unknown waters somewhat...

Yeah, i'm not locked into buying it or anything, just seemed like a viable option for the short-medium term as a working rig of a decent standard (would you agree?) and a good path for upgrade later (going down in the intel path) when it's time to pick up a newer CPU and MoBo... I like the case, PSU and HDD factor included in the price, albeit these are the cheaper parts of a build. Total price seemed ok to me, but I am a bit of a n00b...

I'm really appreciative of the response too!
