I have a Gigabyte GABX2000 m/board and want to get the best out of it, rather than yet another upgrade. G/Byte's web site still shows PIII 550 as max cpu although I currently run PIII 600. Board multiplier goes to 9.5 and FSB ranges from 66 - 133. I currently have PC100 ram. My question is this - is there any reason why I cannot run a 100Mhz PIII 800 cpu in this board?
ps - any better options that I should try?

The PIII 800 should run fine. You may want to get the latest BIOS for your board also more so the procesor is reported properly than anything else. or you could get some PC 133 ram and set the bus speed to 124mhz to have your current procesor run at 744.

Thanks!
I thought I would stick to the PC100 as I have 256Mb, then try 112Mhz FSB which would get me close to 900Mhz CPU speed. If it doesn't work I'll settle for 800.
As most suppliers do not sell processors on a "suck-it-and-see" basis, I appreciate your help. Thanks again.
