So I had just bought a new Zotac geforce gtx 660 synergy edition graphics card. I set up everything, properly seat the card, plug in the pci-e power cord to the card, aaaaand it's not being read.
So I go into the bios and into this nifty feature called a board explorer which virtually displays the layout of the board and its connective pieces. Lo and behold, the board explorer says the pci-e slot the card is connected to is empty. It did this with the other slot as well when I tried that one.
So now I reset the bios to defaults, and yes the defaults do set it so pci-e slots are priority over integrated, and still I get the gpu not being read. I've also updated the bios no avail.
I figure I must have injured the mobo in some way, so I plug in my old gpu and it's read immediately. The new card isn't dead because I put it in my buddy's rig and it worked like a charm.
I can't update drivers because, obviously, the drivers don't see a card so they say they can't install anything.
I've looked at other GPU posts but none have helped. I'm definitely at my wits end here. Any and all help is appreciated.
Running windows 8.1, PSU is a cx750, motherboard is an Intel MSI z87-g41 pc mate.
