[HELP] Graphics Card Over Heat? [HELP]

So, i noticed that a lot of hot air was coming out of the top of my case. So i opened my case and touched my GPU. It was extremely hot. I couldn't hold my hand on there for 5 seconds. Anyway I ran a couple test to see what my GPU temp was and it was at 85 C. I don't know if that's bad or normal. Could someone please tell me if this is ok or bad and if it's bad how do I cool it down a lot?

By the way, I have a Asus R9 390 Strix. And just in case I have a i5-6600.

Thats preatty hot for the gpu, it technically isnt exeeding the max. operating temarature but you should do something about it. Is that when the gpu is idle or when its under load?

temps of 85c for your gpu under load are perfectly fine. hawaii chipset runs pretty hot. older r9 290(x) would even reach 95c under load. the later r9 390(x) retain temps at lower levels.

I would say heavy load, since at the time I was playing Rust with max settings I could put. Plus I could here the fans pretty loudly.

Alll the review i found say have the temps under load at around 60-70C

If you have a small form factor case or some heavy airflow restrictions that could explain those temps

i would consider 60-70c temps for hawaii gpu ideal as these teslt are conducted under ''ideal'' conditions. something to also consider is the gpu drivers. the original crimson amd drivers had a bug regarding fan operation. make sure you have the latest installed. a more aggressive fan profile will eventually lead in lowering temps.

I would:

1) Check your fans on your case. Make sure they're directing airflow properly. You want to have air moving in at one spot, and moving out at another to create a logical flow.

2) Make sure your GPU fan and heatsink are clean. Compressed air to blow it out and make sure the heatsink isn't plugged with dust. That can happen if your computer is in a dusty environment or has been running for quite some time.

3) Check your drivers as mentioned. The Crimson drivers were rather buggy (caused some major crashing in my older GPU system (dual 6770s) - and as mentioned had some fan control problems on newer ones). Revert to the latest version of the Catalyst drivers and see if you still have that problem.

Make sure vSync is ON

Under normal conditions most games won't fully load an R9 390. You should not be operating anywhere near max temps while gaming.

If you case has poor airflow, take the side panel off until you can get a better case or add a side vent to blow cool air toward the GPU cooler intake.
