After I open the laptop after closing it it wont turn back on. I hear the fans and everything so i know it turns on. But the screen is still blank. After a manual restart it displays everything normally. I don't know what is happening.

HP Pavilion DV6
Intel i7 Processor
AMD radeon hd 6570m 5700 series
Driver version 12.104.0.0

Recently I "updated" the driver but im not sure what my last version was so it could have been a downgrade. Minecraft (of course) was not running so i needed to update but the Catalyst Install manager would not install so i downloaded a different version i still have that i could put a download link if needed but i just want to know how to fix this problem.

I just updated it and it didnt fix it. It still turns black upon opening but restarting it brings the display back.

Hmm... I hate to suggest this, but try using the latest beta Catalyst package (13.11) and see what happens:

If your last driver update attempt came from the HP website, you are probably still using an outdated version. I find in most cases, the system manufacturers lag WAY behind the graphics chip makers with their driver support. If that doesn't help, I would then look at other drivers causing the problem. The chipset drivers are usually a good candidate if the BIOS is updated as well as the video driver.

Hello Chaos, check this out:
1.- Open Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options
2.- From the left menu, click on “Choose what the power buttons do”
Try changing those configurations.

Let me know if that worked.

I'm having the same problem with my HP dv7
I open and the screen is blank... (If I look ultra close, its almost like the dim is turned down to 5-10%, yet even after brightening it using the keyboard it still is blank. I plugged it into my HDMI on my TV (duplicate display) and it shows everything normal on my TV yet still nothing on my laptop screen.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

I had the same problem with my dv6 (with AMD Mobility Radeon 5000 series). It happened off-and-on with the pre-installed Windows 7 but when I updated to Windows 8 it happened every time I closed the lid to my laptop, and also after the laptop tried to wake from sleep. I tried all the power options (do nothing when closing the lid, etc) but nothing worked. I tried updating and downgrading the display drivers and software but still nothing. Finally I tried the Clean Uninstall Utility from AMD and restarted the computer. Windows wants to download drivers to update the display but I told it not to. I then changed my screen resolution to maximum and now I no longer have the screen problem. I have a touchscreen and it still works with Windows basic display driver.

NOTE: When I ran the Clean Uninstall Utility the screen went dark again. I had to use a flashlight at an angle on the screen to see where to click to restart the computer (I had tried to force restart the 1st time but it kept the display driver and didn't work).

Here is the link to the Clean Uninstall Utility: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
If you don't have the AMD Radeon you might want to check with your video card manufacturer to see if they have the same type of utility.

I hope this works for you guys as well...I know how annoying it is when HP decides not to support their products and your left with a POS computer.
