These are my specs:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
Intel Core I5 6400
NVIDIA GeForce GT730 2GB
3TB
12GB DDR3
DVD-Super Multi
Card Reader
10/100/1000 Wireless LAN + Bluetooth
So i am sure I have a x8 slot on my motherboard and I have a 730 GPU and if I use CPUID/CPU Z it says I have a x8 slot so I want to upgrade to maybe a 750 or 960 but I heard that better GPUS need a x16 slot and I obviously don't have one so I was wondering will it fit into a x8 slot and is it true that all GeForce GPUS can fit into a x8 slot? Please answer my questions and thanks for any help! 😀

Solution
Mini-ITX motherboard with a PCI-Ex16 (x8) expansion slot. As mentioned, you can install any PCI-Ex16 card into the expansion slot, but it will be limited to x8 bandwidth. Anything above a GTX 960 would likely be throttled by that limitation.

I need to know the make and model of your motherboard.

Many newer motherboards have slots that are the full x16 length but only run at x8 or x4. Please reply with the make and model of your motherboard.

Please also be aware that PCIe 3.0 has twice the throughput of PCIe 2.0, so PCIe 3.0 x8 would be equivalent to PCIe 2.0 x16, however I can't say that applies to your motherboard because I don't know whether your slots are 3.0 or 2.0 unless I know the make and model of the board.

Okay hopefully this helps I have an ACER, Acer Aspire T3-710 and the chipset is Intel Skylake. Southbridge Intel Skylake PCH. LPCIO ITE IT8613. Version R01-A0. PCI-Express Link Width x8, Max. Supported x8

Is this your motherboard? If so then the slot will fit an x16 card.
Now you need to realize that if it only has x8 bandwidth so anything above a 950 will be bottlenecked by this.
For future reference an OEM (like acer, asus, dell, etc) desktop is generally not a good platform to make into a gaming computer. You will end up spending much more money in the long run overcoming the cooling, case, and power supply limitations, and that is assuming there is no proprietary parts that are incompatible with standardized PC parts.

I don't think that is mine mine has a x8 at the bottom and a x1just above it?

Can you take a picture? (You will need to upload it to the internet to photobucket, or imgr or somewhere else.

If it is truly an x8 slot then you cant just stick an x16 card in an x8 slot just like you cant roll a car through a standard width door.
You can get a riser cable to adapt it from x8 to x16 but if there is no extra PCI openings in your case after the motherboard then you will have no place to put it.

Hey im a bit confused as I thought i had a x8 slot not x16 haha but also are you saying any a x16 card will fit? into my x8 slot?

It is an x16 slot, but it's wired for only x8 bandwidth. Yes. Any PCI-Ex16 graphics card will physically fit but the bandwidth will be limited. Think of it as a 16 lane highway and 8 lanes are closed for construction. A low end card would be like Sunday morning traffic. Not a lot of cars so there would not be any slow downs in performance. A higher end card would be like rush hour traffic and since half the lanes are closed, cars are backed up, waiting.

Okay thanks so bascialy I should get a GPU up to a 960 no higher but I can use a 960?

I was going to get a SFX power supply and get a 950 but when I go to the description why does it say Form Factor ATX? becasue I have a mini ITX will it still fit?

The motherboard may be Mini-ITX, but that does not describe the power supply. If your power supply is of ATX form factor, then you should be good buying another ATX form factor power supply. It's sad that they use the same nomenclature.

I would definitely recommend a second opinion on replacing the power supply.

Hey bro im so confuesed I know I have a mini ITX board but I think I have a SFX psu im not sure:/ So if I get a new SFX will it work with the ATX 950?
