[Help] Identifying problem with set up.

hi,
I am having trouble finding out which component is broken in my desktop I had in storage. I don't know how to isolate or identify if its my mobo or my power supply .... or even Gpu or cpu

-It does power on but gives no picture(swapped graphics but may or may not be reliable)
-mobo beep ~2 seconds every ~5 seconds, another time was just a straight beep (beeped on first few boot ups)
-all fans power on (might not be psu after all)

I will update with hardware specifications when i get

-Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 (rev. 1.0)
-w xp 32bit
-AMD Anthlon X2

I couldn't answer to what happened before this happened as it wasn't in my possession at that time. =/

What kind of troubleshoot can I try ?

How long has it been in storage do you think? Perhaps the first thing you should do is replace the CMOS battery (it's probably dead) and try again. Eliminate that problem (cheap fix).

Check your cabling. Unplug and replug everything as it may be loose but not appear to be.

Make a list of all the PC components. Research the motherboard. Look up the beep codes for the MB and have them ready

Try again to boot the PC. Don't bother with loading the operating system. Get into the BIOS. With a dead battery the BIOS has probably defaulted to the original settings. Make sure all your hardware is properly listed in the BIOS (refer to your list)

Just for me; If the CMOS battery is in fact dead the desktop would still power on and give power to all peripherals?

If the battery is dead then the BIOS settings are gone (boot order, ram settings processor speed, processor type etc)

As for powering up, they should. That's why I suggest checking the cabling.

Also, make sure the video card you put in does not draw more power than the supply can provide. What card did you put in?

What was the original card? I would put it back in as the new card would be using different drivers than what was installed. If you get it as far as loading the OS then you can uninstall the old drivers but at that point you are only optimizing the system.

Do all the fans spin? CPU, case, etc

Hopefully i can get this badboy to give me some Beep tonight ,

as for battery , I just picked up a CR 2032 CMOS Batt, I Don't have my computer physically in front of me so no results yet to all the troubleshooting. Also its been untouched for about ~3 years.

GPU's i tried was GeForce9800 which does require a power input (when tested with this one power was evident due to on-card fan spinning)
the other one is an older GeForce 7600


I'll update in about 2 hours, have classes
