Unfortunately I need a new board. I have no idea how this happened. Everything works except video. That slot must be burned up as well.

Current PC Specs
Mobo: Gigabyte X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING ATX AM4 Rev 1.0
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1070 Mini 8GB GDDR5
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 64GB (4 x 16GB)
CPU Cooler: iCUE H170i

I have 4 RGB fans using a controller, the AIO has 3 RGB fans as well with it's own controller.

Can you guys recommend a better board without breaking the bank? Maybe around $200? I could get the same one for around $130. Not sure if I even need to upgrade. What do you guys think?

Only 4 X series boards in budget new:

X570 there is pretty bare bones. So I would look at the Fatality or the two Taichi.
Hey thanks Eximo. doesn't look like they're all available. What do you think of this one?

I like that it's wifi. I'm not quite sure what's the difference between that and the one I have now though.,

Or this one?

Looks like the one I have is much more expensive, if that means anything.
They were both released on the same day.

Both solid MBs. but damage like that doesn't happen all by itself, what did you plug in ? Whatever it was it made a bad short or you got some water in them so don't try it on new MB until properly checked.

I KNOW but I honestly have NO clue what on earth happened to it. I woke with my pc turned off and when I turned it back on there was no display. I thought it was the GPU then about a week later I noticed the burn. Could a power surge do that? It's water cooled maybe the AIO is leaking?? Doesn't appear so. I just don't know.
I went ahead and ordered this one.

Added this to be safe...

Thanks again CountMike

AIO and good liquid in custom coolers is not electrically conductive and neither is distilled water so it should cause such a mess, only "dirty" tap water or some drink. Even a voltage surge wouldn't do that if slots are empty. I've never seen damage like that and in that place even after lightning hit. Even battery is fried and blue. That takes some high heat and power. Did you have a GPU in one of those slots, whatever it was it should show same or worse damage, You better check PSU too.

No those slots were empty. I will check the PSU as well. The RGB controller connector was melted right into the board as well along with the Audio cable from the Case. This is crazy, I think maybe one of those cables may have been crimped in there under one of the fans. Hopefully the PSU's still good. Every one of the RGB fans were running so everything was still getting power. I'll let you know once I install the new board in a few days.

i had that b450 board. worked great for me. i had a 5900x and dual gpu's on it and it ran great.

it's still in use just in a different system as i moved to am x570s aorus elite for the added pcie lanes and extra m.2 slot.

overall it's a good board though pretty expensive now. think i paid $115 for mine new years ago...

same price as the b450 you went with. can you cancel? much better buy for the x570 though the x570 can be a touch noisy with the chipset fan.

Really?? Bummer, no I'll have it on Saturday. too late to cancel now. But maybe I should send it back and get this one? Now I don't know what to do. I'm kind of in a hurry to get it back up and running. So I dunno.

What do you think I did wrong though? I'd hate to repeat it. I have more pictures :)

It obviously started at the D_LED1 port, which is where I plugged in the ARGB controller. There are 5 fans plugged into it. Maybe that's too much for the board? Everything's been working just fine for one month. I just added the RGB's a month ago. Did it just heat up over time? I have no idea! The connector from the controller just totally melted off into the board. Is that crazy or what?

this is most likely what happened straight from the manual. to much voltage or wrong voltage

10) DLED_V_SW1/DLED_V_SW2 (Digital LED Strip Power Select Jumpers)The jumpers allow you to select the supply voltage of the D_LED1 and D_LED2 headers. Be sure toverify the voltage requirements of your digital LED strip and set the correct voltage with this jumper beforeconnection. Incorrect connection may lead to the damage of the LED strip.111-2: 5V (Default)2-3: 12V

as for updating you may as well jump to either b550 ( you would need to upgrade cpu for either ) or next generation.

depends on how fast you want to upgrade.

depends on max budget

I think I'm just going to use the board I ordered. I don't think I need to update anything else. One GPU is fine, Ryzen 7 is fine as well. I think you lost me there. The board I purchased WILL work with everything I have now right?

Here's a picture of the controller. It's 5volt apparently. I had the 5V VDG plugged into the D_LED1 and how do you set the correct voltage to the jumper before connection? Is that something you do in BIOS?

Will that B450 that I got handle the 5v controller on the D_LED1?

Controller is self powered from SATA connection to PSU so no possible overload on the MB.

Quite possibly a short in the SATA power connector. They can be pretty fragile and aren't always manufactured well. I have troubleshooted a few systems where that was exactly the problem.
Thank you Eximo. I guess this is a situation where I just put the thing back together and cross my fingers.

One last thing. Can someone tell me how to select the supply voltage on the new board? Maybe I had it set wrong on the original one? Again, the new one is the Gigabyet B450 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi.

Voltage for what ? Motors run at maximum 12vDC, but their lights may run at 5vDC ARGB or 12v RGB. Fan motors at 5VDC are rare and mostly very small ones, 80, 90, 120 and 140 are most usually 12vDC.
I'm sorry, I have these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1VGZP7Z?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title But it does say, "Fan Interface, 5V3PIN/4PIN PWM. But now that I have everything together when I turn it on the RAM lights go on but that's it. No Boot, I'll bet I need a PSU now. UGH!

On 3 sides there are 4 pairs of connectors- One with 3 is for fan's ARGB lights to plug is ARGB cable from a fan and second one that says PWM with 4 contacts fan to plug in that fan's fan's cable for motor. on the 4th side there are connectors for SATA power cable from PSU, one marked ARGB to connect to ARGB connector on the MB and one marked PWM to some PWM fan connector like CHA_FAN on the MB. That way you can control fan speed and ARGB lights with SW or with tha remote controler.
