Greetings one and all,

I am building my first comp in over thirty years! I have grabbed onto a NZXT Phantom 820, a dash of Samsung Pro SSDs and an MSI X99A Godlike Motherboard Carbon edition.

I am having, however, a heck of a time finding the most powerful Intel CPU for the motherboard.

Any and all takers are appreciated.

I probably would not build around Intel's socket 2011v3 right now. AMD's Ryzen offers a lot more value for encoding, and Intel's socket 1151 is better for gaming.

The Intel 6950X is the top CPU for that socket, at $1650:

It's a close match for the $300 Ryzen 1700 in workstation tasks though, and the socket is also nearing end of life so there won't be any more upgrades to drop in later.
