Budget (including currency): 3000-5000 USD

Country: 3rd world country + Malaysia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Web, varied gaming (I love simulation genre), games development, Stable Diffusion, 2D and 3D graphic apps, multitasking multi-monitor setup, etc.

Hello,

I have a PC that I’ve built myself in October 2019. This was my first PC bought using my own money, my first PC that I’ve built myself, and my first powerful PC.

It has been almost 5 years and it’s almost fine, but I think the time has come for a new PC. It’s already at its limit, especially since I discovered Stable Diffusion. I’m a game developer, gaming, dabbling occasionally into 2D and 3D graphics, etc. Varied usage. I will be generously donating my current PC to my friend.
So, my budget is around $3000-$5000, although don’t take this into account, because I’m from a third-world country where everything is overpriced and I will be buying PC parts both in my home country and in Malaysia where I’m going soon. In Malaysia, I will buy the Motherboard, GPU, SSD, and Cooler.

I want you to check out my planned build and give me some expert advice. I think everything fits together nicely, I hope. Check out my comments about parts as well.

I want my PC to last at least 10 years, if possible.

Here's my current setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core @3.6GHz
I didn’t have any problems with this CPU.
GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC 8GB GDDR6
Unfortunately, I had several troubles with this GPU. From multi-monitor setup, to driver troubles and no support for Stable Diffusion. Also can’t play new games in 4K, even some in 2K 🙁
Cooler: AMD Wraith Prism LED RGB
I guess it’s fine? But loud.
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming
RAM: Kingstone 2x8GB DDR4-3200
PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 11 650W
Storage: Samsung M.2 SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB
Monitor: Samsung U28E590D 28" 4K@60Hz TN+Film
Well, it’s cheap...
Case: Mid Tower Thermaltake Commander C35
Had some troubles while installing the PSU. It’s heavy and big.

Here's what I'm planning
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core @4.2GHz OR AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D 16-Core @4.2GHz
Honestly, I think 8 cores will be enough, but I’m a game developer, heavy multi-tasking, professional apps, etc. So I’m not quite sure. I heard certain things about 3D chips and something about their chiplet design, I don’t know. I think if I take a 16-core CPU then it will definitely last me 10 years, no?
Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Elite
So, I want a powerful but quiet cooler, I think I’m biased towards be quiet! German engineering and whatnot.
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC 16GB GDDR6X OR Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24GB GDDR6X
Yeah, big difference, obviously, I want the best GPU, although I’m not entirely sure because it’s almost time for a 5000 series, plus a 4080 Super is coming. I just hope if I take a 4090 it will last me at least 10 years! Eren Yeager moment. I trust the Gigabyte brand, plus they have an official store in Malaysia.
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650M-PLUS OR ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E Gaming Wi-Fi
The only thing I want from a motherboard is:
2 RAM slots;
2 M.2 slots;
Good VRM with a beautiful heatsink;
Built-in IO Shield;
At least 4 connectors for case fans, I don’t know how this works, unfortunately, I couldn’t configure this in my current PC. But I want my PC to be able to smart control case fans;
And at least one USB Type-C.
That’s it. I don’t care about motherboard size, I won’t be using anything besides a GPU... BUT The Gigabyte GPUs have an ANTI-SAG BRACKET which is screwed onto the motherboard, it should work with ATX, with others I don’t know.
Having M.2 heatsinks is a nice addition.
I think Asus motherboards look really cool, plus I kinda trust them as well although I heard a lot of bad things about them recently.

RAM: Kingstone 2x16GB DDR5-6000
I don’t know what to say, I don’t understand anything about RAM. 32GB should be enough, I hit the limit at 16GB. I only want 32GB DDR5 with AMD EXPO.
I’m thinking about picking up an RGB one 😀

PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 12 850/1000/1200W
Again, I trust them. They have a nice feature, the only thing I don’t know is what wattage to pick. I read something about peak PSU efficiency, so I’m lost. I guess with a 4090 I will need at least 1200W or more!
Storage: Kingston M.2 SSD Fury Renegade 4TB
I will be re-using my current Samsung SSD as a Windows drive and this one will be for everything else. I heard there are a lot of problems with the new gen of Samsung SSDs and they don’t have 4TB options. Also, I have Kingston RAM, I guess this one should be fine as well. Right?
Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GP95R-B 27" 4K@144Hz IPS
I don’t care about 75/120/144/165+Hz, I don’t care, what will I do? Code in 120 FPS? 😀
All I want is a beautiful picture.
So I went with IPS.
No less than 27 inches, and no more than 30, ideally the same 28 inches. 3840x2160, no more no less, not curved, only 16:9, frameless design, adjustable stand, I don’t want a mounting bracket.
I want micro-LED but I guess they won’t come in ages.
I DO want OLED but I won’t be getting one, I abuse my monitor heavily so burn-ins are guaranteed for me.

Case: Mid Tower be quiet! PURE BASE 500FX
Again - be quiet! 4 pre-installed fans, lighter and smaller than my current case, better filters, even insulation mats 😱 I like it!

What can you say about this build? I’m all ears!

Should I buy max specs, or maybe I should buy everything else maxed out and then buy an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and a 4070 Ti Super or something, and then just upgrade when new AMD CPUs and Nvidia GPUs are released?

Thank you!

I replied to your thread on another board and you still aren't getting it. The 7800x3D is not the cpu you want for any kind of productivity. Google the reviews of that cpu starting with the link in this post.

Yeah I wanted to hear other people's opinion as well

P.S. I checked out the article that you provided and both 7950X3D and 7800X3D are looking really fine, haven't noticed anything bad, not in productivity nor in games.

The X3D processors are a one trick pony in that they are very good at gaming, but for anything else, they are slower than the underlying 7700x processor.
At any price point, you will find that Intel and Ryzen are comparable in performance.
In general ryzen offers more processing threads which is good for batch production where all threads can be fully loaded.
OTOH, Intel will usually offer better single thread performance which helps with simulations that are largely single threaded.
To compare chips, look up the passmark performance numbers.

R7-7700X 16 36513/4279
I7-13700K 24 47027/4397
Number of processing threads, total rating when all threads are 100%used/ Single thread rating.

Run the cpu-Z bench on your 3700X.
You should get a score around 528:

Well I do care about multithreading and that's one of many reasons why I prefer AMD over Intel.
It's just you are all saying as if I switch from my 3700X to 7800X3D I would see a non-gaming usage performance drop?

Not at all.
R7-3700X 16 22660/2664

Just that a 7700X might be a better alternative.
Since you are now using amd, you will be more comfortable upgrading to amd.
You should by now understand how important ram specs and compatibility is to ryzen.
However, I am just pointing out that a I7-13700K with 24 processing threads will have more multithreaded batch capability and single thread performance than the 16 thread 7800X3D or 7700X. I have no idea how prices might compare for these chips where you are.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is on par price wise. I just honestly don't want Intel CPUs, I don't like their socket policies, they are hotter, etc.

What else can you say about my build besides CPU?

When you have picked your cpu and motherboard, check very closely that the ram kit you pick is explicitly supported for your motherboard/cpu combo or by the ram vendor.
I follow these forums and one thing that stands our is the number of issues with ryzen and ram.

Well I didn't have any RAM problems so I don't expect them. I got recommended to check out Team T-Force Delta RAM.

If you are fine with CPU, why not just upgrade to 5950X or 5800X3D? you even have the 5700X3D launching on Jan 31st. The next gen ryzen chips are due by end of this year. might as well save for a proper upgrade with the new AM5 mobo as well.

I am saying this as this will give you the cash to go for the 4090 and mini led or QD led displays.

Get the new case, fans, PSU, GPU and extra rams and SSD if yoy wish along with the new peripherals. We had new QD led displays in this year's CES.

Well I will be donating my current PC to my friend, so that's why I'm starting from scratch.
Also, even with new CPUs it'll still be AM5, no? Plus I want DDR5 RAM.

So, I've finished my build, here are the final specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core @4.7/5.6GHz
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super Gaming OC 16GB GDDR6X
Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
They didn't have 5 or Elite 🙁
Motherboard: Asus TUF X670E Plus
I wanted ROG Strix B650E-E, but again, nowhere to be found
RAM: Teamgroup T-Create Expert 2x16GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30
PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 12 1000W
Storage: Samsung SSD 990 Pro 2TB
Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GR75Q-B 27" 4K@144Hz IPS
Love it!
Case: Mid Tower be quiet! Silent Power 802 Window
Wanted to go solid panel, but one with window was cheaper for some reason lol
Case Fans: x4 be quiet! Silent Wings 4 PWM 140mm
So silent! Wow!
Thermal Paste: Arctic MX-6

I've managed to make my build SO QUIET! In desktop I can't hear it at all. In fact, I've got so used to it so quickly that when I play games it sounds like a jet engine to me lol.

I gotta say it was a challenge to build this, case+anti-vibration fans, I've never used a non-stock cooler, so that was interesting... Putting up an anti-sag bracket, connecting everything, damn. And then the problem with existing Windows on an old SSD. But overall, I'm so happy rn:relaxed:
