Help me pick a Motherboard that has SLI support

Hey all.

I am soon to build my first gaming PC but I need help with the Motherboard.

This setup is good for what I want however the Motherboard I have listed there does not allow for SLI support.
I would like to find something that has SLI support so that in future I can put another GTX 670 in when it is required. I would be much more comfortable with my build if it wasn't restricted to one GPU - I want to build something that can be readily upgraded in the future.

I know nothing about Motherboards so I really need help here. I want something that is hopefully around the same price as the one I currently have listed and will still work with the other components I have chosen.

Yeah well it's the same price and clearly better than the Asus Z68.

Will the Z77 work in good harmony with the CPU and GPU I have chosen? Also the 8GB Croohair RAM I have listed runs at 1600MHZ, will that be enough?

I was under the impression that i5 2500k works better with a z68 than it does with a z77, please elaborate because I really don't know much about this.

Everything will work just fine with the Z77. No worries! Z68 was made specifically FOR SB CPU's in the beginning (and most will now work with Ivy, with a BIOS update), yes, but they run just as well on Z77.

So that ASRock Z77 you listed is fit for gaming obviously.

I had a friend tell me Asus is better than ASRock, it won't really make any difference though will it?

I will most likely go with the one that you listed.

Alright, So I won't go wrong with the Z77 Extreme4 you listed? Also why does the ASRock Z68 Extreme4 cost more than the Z77?

No, you can't really go wrong with the Z77 Extreme4, and the Z68 Extreme4 has an extra x16 PCIe 2.0 slot for a total of 3 x16 slots (that one is 2.0 only, though at x4 speed).

Sorry I do not understand x16 PCIe, what is it? And x16 slots?

I have learned a lot on these forums so far and I think PCIe is the last thing that I don't understand.

They're the slots that a graphics card uses (full length x16). There are shorter x1 PCIe slots as well, for use with other peripherals like sound cards, etc.

Also, the number denotes how many "lanes" it is. So x16 is 16 lanes of traffic available and so on.

So basically the Z77 Extreme4 will hold 2 GPU's and the Z68 Extreme4 will hold 3?

That's fine. I'm going to be starting out running 1 GTX670 and possibly 2 eventually.

I don't see any reason that I will need more than that for a few years.
