Help me spend $1200 on second build (first build thanks to you 6 years ago!)

Hi guys. 6 years ago you helped me build my first build, and it's been acting up lately, but I need a new one anyways for work.

I have a budget of $1200 in the US, and I will reuse my case because I custom made a tampered glass panel for it, and the case looks too cool to leave behind. I already have an MSI 1070, that I plan to keep, as well as a 4K 40" Samsung TV that I need to use as a monitor.

What I need is:

*Processor
*Processor cooler (never used water cooling before)
*Motherboard (preferably not Asrock)
*Ram
*M.2 Storage
*PSU (preferably EVGA)


I have to say I am not much of a gamer tbh, and I mostly want to use it for media consumption, and try that new 4K HDR thing I know almost nothing about, as well as Autocad.

Can you help me out? I built other systems before (very long ago), and my biggest fear is always RAM failure within the motherboard connection, or bent pins over time somehow.

by that price, shouldn't I go for 16G of ram instead of 8G? Is it even worth it going for 32G for my basic needs with CAD, and 4K movies?
I see EVGA's PSUs as the highest rated in Newegg, should I trust that?
How about motherboard rep? I seem to have bad luck with Asrock =[

If you're referring to my build then yes, it does have 16gb of ram (2x 8gb sticks).

Many psus get good user ratings on store sites even if they're not that good (not saying evga is bad)
For psu ratings, you should look at reviews made by professionals.

I have that same unit myself and it's really nice.

As for motherboards, i've personally had the best experiences with Gigabyte and now using my ASRock board which has been good so far.
Worst experiences i've with Asus, 2 of the 3 boards i've bought from them have broken down within the first year. Msi i somewhat dislike from the experiences i had with my B350 Tomahawk.

Thanks for the info! wow, I forgot about jonnyguru it was so long ago man, I feel old now.

I was thinking about matching my MSI 1070 with an MSI mobo, but that worries me now.

I've heard that they won't be coming until the end of March.
If you want to cut the price then Ryzen 7 is a great option too.
