Why Are You Upgrading: My laptop is very old and slow, i can't run any modern games on it, this will be my first gaming pc.

Thanks to both of you for those those builds, I am not sure i really need a 1070, 1060 seems like a pretty strong card so i would rather save the money and get that, or put the money towards improving the rest of the system if necessary. I wasn't planning on having an optical drive in the system as i didn't think i would need one, is there a reason why i should definitely have one? I notice that neither of you included a network card in your builds, is wifi capability built into the selected motherboards?

Solution
I still say 1070 is a better idea, as it will last longer, before you need to upgrade.

ok guys i have ordered all my parts apart from the cpu cooler, i ended up going for the i5 6600k. will the hyper 212 evo be good enough to cool an overclocked cpu, or do i need something better? also, my case is the cm690iii, it has 2 fans, a 200mm intake in the front and a 120mm exhaust at the back, would it be a good idea to add another fan? also i read elsewhere that a fan filter is a good idea for the intake fan, where do i get one of those?

Just thought i would bump this thread to let you guys know that i completed my build a few weeks ago, specs are as follows:

cm 690 iii case
cryorig h7 cooler
msi z170 m5 mobo
msi gtx 1060 gaming x 6gb
gskill 2 x 8gb ram
tp link ac 1300 network card
evga 650 g2 psu
crucial mx300 275gb ssd
1tb hdd (i dont' recall the brand name)
Pioneer 24x dvd+r

I think thats everything. The build went relatively smoothly, the only problems I had was with fitting the cooler but i got there in the end. Thanks to everyone that offered advice...
