Hello, I have been having this odd issue that occurs atm only when playing bf2042 and grey zone warfare that happens at random times either after few hours or right away where my monitors go black as if they're going to sleep. My icue lights go default and the pc is on but completely unresponsive and the only way to shut it off is flipping off the power supply. I can also get this to happen sometimes when hitting FN+PAUSE.

I ran metro exodus enhanced benchmark ultra settings maxed 3440x1440 for 3+ hours no problems and can play and do other stuff no issues.

Temps when checked are solid for cpu and gpu.

troubleshooting that did not work
- factory restore
- reseating ram
- reseating gpu
- unplugging and plugging everything back in
- adjusting power plan settings

SPECS

4070 fe
5900x
corsair 850watt psu
corsair aio and case fans
windows 11

I am so lost and do not know what to do at this point. I thought it solved it by disabling icue but then the issue came back.

Try disabling power saving for GPU and PCI-E slot too see if it's the issue.
I actually did try this and sadly did not work. I am not sure if one of my parts is going bad or what. Something interesting is I could not recreate the issue with my GT720 card when hitting FN+PAUSE. Instead the pc would just restart instead of locking up??? so confused.

What are the full pc specs?

Might have a look at this.

Especially with gray zone being early access, may want to be sure you aren’t trying to run dlss or any frame generation etc as they could have bugs in their code that can’t handle those issues.

A quick search for bf2042 crashes came up with this. A guy on their forums had similar issues as you and did a clean boot, and said basically his icue software was the issue.

Full specs

FE 4070
5900x
gigabyte b550m DS3H AC
corsair H150i elite capellix
4 corsair ll120 fans
WD 1tb SN550 m.2
4 8gb crucial ballistix 3000mhz cl15 ram
corsair rx850 psu

So I played gray zone just now for bout 30 and was okay, but I will have to play longer tomorrow to be sure as earlier today was able to play for hours before the issue happens. Only 2 games are battlefield 2042 and gray zone warfare.

Is it bad that this has happened like 20 sum times and keep having to switch off my psu cutting power from the pc to get it to turn off and back on???

Not great power wise.

You’ve got the same psu as I do and those are tier A rated units.

Is this your board?

Looking at the vrms on that board, the 5900x may be too much for that board to handle. In other words once the cpu starts heating up, the board could be having a time coping with it. I actually had a 5900x for a while on a b350 board and had issues with it after switching to 1440p. Suddenly it was like I started having issues with it heating up at that point until I put an aio on it. But I just wonder if the vrms on that board aren’t up to dealing with the 5900x.

Yes that is the same board I have there. It’s odd because it almost seems like the pc it being forced into a sleep like state and can’t get out of it but happens at random. And I thought PSU as well, but it doesn’t crash with other demanding games. Really have only been able to replicate so far with BF2042 and Gray Zone. But I don’t get why the GT720 refused to be able to be forced into this unresponsive black screen when hitting FN+Pause.

I had this issue before while back ago but was due to a corrupted file on my pc that I fixed but now idk what’s happening.

As I said, I wonder if it’s not the vrms on the motherboard.

When I owned an asrock b350 board, for a time I had a 5900x, my gpu was a 6700xt.

At the time I also had a 1080p monitor. As I recall, as long as I was at 1080p it was ok.

However I remember upgrading to 1440p and I started having issues with overheating etc. trying to remember. But I remember at the time I was using a vetroo v5 air cooler, similar to a cooler master hyper 212.

What stopped it as I recall from the time was that I ended up upgrading to an aio cooler that had a fan that would blow on the vrms on the motherboard.

When I installed that things normalized.

I can’t say for sure why things acted that way, but I surmise that when I was at 1080p that my gpu was basically twiddling its thumbs and not passing a lot of data to the CPU because it didn’t need to.

I think when I upgraded to 1440, and the gpu had to work harder it started asking more of the cpu which in turn when pushed and didn’t have with cooling acted up.

You may have a similar issue happening. I’m not 100% on that, and I’m going completely from memory based on parts I no longer have. But it would be interesting to know if the cpu temps/use are spiking at those times.
