So today got my new gtx 760 and swapped it with my amd 7770, now my motherboard is a good one and my CPU is also, yet my PSU, well...embarrassingly it now prevails to be the cheapest thing in my PC. Do you think an alpine (supposedly) 700w power supply would have taken out the other components if the motherboard (amd I think) is supposed to have a safety mechanism considering it smelt smokey and flashed once before breaking... thanks anyway.

You should really invest in a new more reliable PSU. Honestly, it's hard to say if it shorted any other components. XFX, EVGA, and SeaSonic PSU's are the most reliable in my opinion.

The PSU is undoubtedly one of the most important parts in any build build. You should always spend a bit more to get a reliable PSU so stuff like this never happens.

So are the odds its taken another component? Because this is a nightmare, literally spent all my money on the card and now the psu is dead. And it was only after it broke I realised its cheap as shit as my friend built my PC for me.

He could always do your H/W for a month. 😉

17, not 12 :) and basically the mobo is anti surge yet the ssd smells burnt, luckily the gtx 760 doesn't, although I am worried as my windows is installed on the SSD so still a nightmare 🙁
