Can anyone who has overclocked a FX 8320 and a R9 290 help me over clock mine my system is below.

CPU: AMD FX 8320
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990XA-UD3
RAM: HyperX 8GB
GPU: AMD R9 290
Case: Antec GX 700
Storage: 120GB Kingston V300 SSD, 2TB Seagate HDD
PSU: XFX XTR 650W Gold
Cooling: Xigmatek Loki(Waiting for delivery of my Cooler Master Nepton 240M)

I'm not going to overclock till my cooler arrives but just want some help/advise.

Solution
For beginner overclocking, I would just stick to the CPU clock ratio and not adjust the FSB.

Turn off all the AMD power saving bollocks (Cool 'n' Quiet) and turbo core technology, disable C1E and manually set your RAM up at 1600MHz.

Change core voltage to manual. Then there are 2 ways to overclock, you can either set the clock ratio and voltage high (I wouldn't go over ~1.475v with an FX 8320), and work your way down, or work your way up. When you have found a stable clock and are happy with temperatures, you can re-enable all the power saving bollocks, C1E and set your RAM up properly, don't re-enable turbo core technology, and then stress test again.

This is a handy guide -...
My stock answer on this is that no-one can or should tell you how to OC, they should point you at resources, let you learn, answer questions, etc. but not just set this to that, and you are done. The reason being is that there are many small things that you should watch out for, and if we don't specifically tell you what to watch for you might kill your system because you have't noticed.

This is a handy guide - http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-piledriver-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboard It is written for ASUS motherboards, but the settings should all be available in the Gigabyte BIOS, they may just be called something different.

Solution
^Well it isn't for me to say what noise and heat level that OP is going to be happy with, but that's besides the point as he is not going to exceed (or come close) to any temperature limits with my suggestion of not exceeding 1.475v considering he's using a Nepton 240M.

"I'm not going to overclock till my cooler arrives but just want some help/advise."

im asking for help and advise on what i need to change ect not saying give me your settings

isnt the idea of a forum to help and give advise :/ or is that just me?

and the advice is to research...

Antiduck, given that you have told him what to do, then yes it is your responsibility to inform him of safe temps he might think that 30 is too much and panic, or that 100 is safe and kill it. You told him how to, the responsibility is yours to provide all of the information.

People tend to use forums because they can get a human response to any questions they may have after maybe reading a guide or even to be pointed to good guides.

I preferred your reply before you edited it lol! 😀

You're being a bit anal. In the entire history of this community, I very much doubt we've had one single person that thinks that 30 bloody degrees centigrade is their maximum safe temperature, get real. And you are still missing the point that at a voltage of 1.475 with a Nepton 240m, you aren't going to reach a temperature of 100° C with even the crappest sample of an FX 8320.

Yeah the key word there is AFTER u read that guide. If I tell u crank up ur voltage to 2 V and turn the fans off will u do it ? I don't think so. It's common sense and educating urself. Google is ur best friend. Forums is for asking unusual questions or when u have problems. Hate those posts "build me pc - budget 1500".
Grow a pair anti-duck

Your assumption is that he hasn't read a guide/multiple guides already, he posted a specific question, not 'Hi! I have come to this forum today to be patronised the fuck out of!' Plus, you didn't even bother to read the OP properly.

Where does your point regarding 2v and turning the fans off fit into anything? No, I wouldn't do it, yes, I'm sure OP wouldn't, but... what point are you trying to make? Or are you assuming that the only reason he wouldn't, or I wouldn't is because me and the OP searched Google for a handy little guide?

A forum is to get more personal help, period. Some people can't read a guide, some people just can't be bothered, but it's not up to you to discriminate and understandably, people get nervous regarding overclocking for the first time and want that personal help; there are people that are prepared to help and there are people that aren't, you might call it spoonfeeding, I literally don't give a flying pig shit.

Not sure why you felt the need to get a little angry though, as I previously was polite to you.
