Hi there , i know there are countless threads about the 1 long beep and 2 short beep thing. It something that has to do with your gpu, ram or motherboard.
My error is a bit different though, i can just boot up my system and run windows perfectly fine. But ONLY when I reboot the computer (like for instance when i need to restart my computer for a new driver) the 1 long beep and 2 short beep comes in to place. I have to manually press my computer to start my computer again.

It all worked fine before. the game ran smooth ,no errors, no 1 long 2 short beep, but sometimes i had artifact a little bit. I wanted to get rid off the artifacts. I figured i had to clean the graphics card and the ram, i did this with a vacuum cleaner (not the smartest idea but ok) When i popped my gpu and ram back in the problems begin to occur. When i now try to play games my screen just freezes, i have to press ctrl alt delete to use my computer again, and it says my amd driver is crashed. I can play at all anymore.

I also cant acces catalyst controler center(software for graphic card AMD)

I brought my PC to the local store to check out what is wrong with my computer(i have no warranty) They tested my gpu,ram it all worked fine.

But tbh i dont think they checked a other gpu , ram on MY motherboard. So im not sure what the problem is right here, the computer store say its my motherboard,But i doubt that , cause it loads normally through windows.

It also could be my psu , im going back to the computer store, to get a heavier psu and see what happens then.

I have reset my cmos aswel, but that didnt fixed it

What do you guys think the problem is? What should i do?

my computer specs
I7 920
Ati radeon hd 4870
ram 2 x 2 gb ocz ddr3
psu 430 watt (12v - 22a)

I did all these steps over and over, like 3 times orso, i even cleaned the cpu a second time. everyting is hooked up aswel.

but i may have found the problem i noticed the pins on the cpu are a bent(a bunch of them)
so to clarify , my pins are bent on my motherboard(socket) not on the cpu itself.
What can bent pins cause? A not properly working gpu ?

It can cause mailfunction to entire system and cause errors through motherboard.

How did you bent those pins, have you used any force when taking CPU back to socket?

Ye i did use a little force, and i thought it was not entirely in there , so i put it out and back in,
i dont here any beeps when starting up, but the fans are running very fast i think at 100%

Correct there are no beeps when i do this, also the fans are running normal
Tommorow i will get a magnifying glass and see if i can bent the pins back
I feel a bit stupid though, i thought you need to hear a clicking sound when you popped the cpu into the socket , so applied pressure
im doing this all for the first time ;P

Try to fix them, but that is not recomended cause if you mess with that and put CPU on you could damage CPU also.

I would recomend that you take PC to an expert. It may save you some more money and time.

I will not exlude option that there is some connection loose or some device unplugged properly causing your system not to start or at least send you some diagnostic sounds.

Ok so im considering buying a new motherboard, But is there a chance my other components are broke. Cause my gpu has the error 3 lights 1601, 1602, 1603. Or is it caused by my current mobo? the problem is the 1366 socket are very expensive, so i need to make the right choice here

I really think that you can't tell from thispoint. It's possible but less probable.

It would be cheapest to pay PC shop to test your components or to go to friend and check RAM and GPU. If you can find friend that has 1366 socket CPU test would be advised also.

You can't really say unless you test it.

Hey remember me i screwed up the pins in my socket,so i bought a new motherboard, msi x58 pro -e , i made the decision to just keep the cpu , graphics card etc. . I was close at point to selling the whole load, but eventually i came across this motherboard which was a bit cheaper than the rest. so i bought it. and also bought new ram 3 x 2 gb
Everything is working fine cpu is a bit high imo minimum temp idle is 38 degrees, max temp idle is about 50 degrees, and my current value is about 42 degrees (idle) is it too high? i have a stock cooler btw

But what really bothering me is , is the temp of gpu, its around 60 degrees idle, thats crazy.
I think i may have put to much thermal paste on it (, when my motherboard crashed i redid all steps , cause i didnt what the problem was, so i redid the gpu with more thermal paste out of frustration) lol

thanks man your help is been great so far
and sorry for my english im from the netherlands
Thanks!

Hi Alex,
Glad to see that you made it working :)

Cpu temps are fine, gpu temps not so great.
It is probable that you have put too much thermal paste on gpu. Clean heatsink and gpu with isoprophyl alcohol.
Put only one drop of it (size of bean) in the middle and put heatsink back on. Heatsink will spread it nicelly.

And what kind of thermal paste are you using? I hope it is not some syliccon based because they are awfull.

They will appear for sure when temps are too high.
You should use somthing like Arctic silver 5. It's great compound, better than ceramique based ones.
Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100008
but in smaller package :)
Back to the original post.
Now you have settled all problems regarding PSU and CPU. Power is there, temps are ok.

GPU remains problem. It's because GPU can sustain damage when does not recieve enough power or when it's overheated.
First you need to fix temp issues.
If even then you recieve artifacts then it's time for new GPU or reflow this one (reflowing is for experts).

Ye but i never had any artifacts when i just installed my new psu and after that, the gpu temps were equal if not higher.
Could the new thermal compound be the problem?

My gpu seems more stable now, reached 73 degrees max.
but my cpu however reached today 100 degrees wtf under load

My cpu is fine , put atric silver 5 on it, my cpu doesnt go higher then 60 degrees under load
my gpu max doesnt go above 80 degrees under load, ill take it for granted, i also read the 4870 has a high stock temp
but sometimes i get a little bit of artifacts, like miniscule 1, its bearly though. but i wonder why it is
is it because i have every fan on my computer at 100% including gpu, cpu fan?

And when i join a game, i get fps of like 60 , but i will drop to like 45 when i play for like 5min, can i relate that to higher temps, is it wise to buy a good cpu cooler for that?, or even better gpu?
