Hi,

Just done my first build, all has gone well except for cpu cooler (Noctua NH-D14) using a asus Z87-K mobo, 4 pin cpu fan header, noctua only has 3 pin, so i'm guessing there is no pwm ?

Asus AI suite was causing all kinds of problems stopping fans and not detecting cpu fan, so I have for the time being uninstalled that and set up profile for silent in bios, My hope was that this way it would control fans by voltage.

However main cpu fan has spun at 1000 rpm, don't know if this is normal for system idle ? Essentially the noctua is not as quiet as I had hoped, this is for a DAW build so quiet is what I really need. Everything is dry fit until everything is resolved.

Anyone have ay experience of Qfan in the bios settings ? I have played around, but not too sure what im doing with the manual settings, just want to see how quiet I can run it ?

Any thoughts much appreciated

4 Pins is PWM which is needed if you want FanXpert to work with it. The 3 Pin is to "Read" how fast it spins. That also why it can't see your CPU fan, since it is not a PWM

The why FanXpert stops your fans is a setting in the program. It stops them when they are not needed. Lets say you have 1 fan cooling the CPU in idle. Then there is not point in having 4 others spinning and make noise. The setting to auto turn fans off can be found under each fan setting.

Thanks so much for the answers guys.

How would you suggest I set up fans for quietest ? As I say I have gone for the silent mode in bios and uninstalled AI suite. Is the bios my only option for controlling the CPU fan, As I don't have pwm

Noctua nh-d14 comes with silent and ultra silent adapters for the fans so you could try either one of those.
